• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Valve cover gaskets

Yes, the studs on the UIM are removable. Hit up a junk yard or Ed Morad or something. I think they're like $30 for a set at the dealer.

As for the gaskets, I can see the failures already:

Those passages are coolant passages. Looks like some may have been getting towards your intake runners, but the seals on those look to be intact (hopefully).

Well, we got the stud out with a pair of vice grips. Not too hard. We then went to checker, auto zone, and napa only to be told that you can't find replacement studs that small. We then went to Lowes and bought a bolt of the exact same size and thread pattern. We are going to cut the head off, clean up the end, and use that instead. It has already been tested, and works perfect. Besides, the car HAS to be done by tomorrow, so asking Ed is not an option.

I think the coolant leak was so bad, because it was probably coming from both the LIM, and the throttle body.

I bought some engine cleaner to de-grease all the parts, so I'll do that tonight, rinse them off, let them dry overnight, and then put it all back together tomorrow.

Edit: Does anyone have torque specs for the upper/lower intake manifold bolts? Also, should I use loctite?
Edit again: Nevermind, found the torque specs

Ok, I got everything put back together, checked the fuel system for leaks, turned the key, and it fired right up.

I would like to thank everyone who posted with help, especially Sabrewings. I couldn't have done it without you guys.

No problem. I was there too. If it didn't require you to register, I would've linked you to my "how-to" on NAIOA for how to do your LIM and UIM gaskets.

Glad it's all working. I'm sure it runs pretty well now. :th_thumbsup-wink:

Ok, I've got a problem. Before I did all this work, I was getting about 19 MPG. Now, I'm getting 15-15.5 MPG. School started earlier this week, and I've been making longer trips, so if anything it should have gone up, not down. Any suggestions?

Anyone?

It'll probably work. The fitting is a -4 AN fitting on our fuel rail. I forgot not everybody has a fuel pressure gauge. :th_shakinghead2:

I quickly tested it, and with the car off, it starts at 40 PSI, and slowly climbs. I wasn't able to leave it for very long, but it hit 46 before I had to go. That took about two minutes to go up 6 PSI.

It was going up while the car was off? You sure the gauge wasn't just slowly moving to the right reading? Mine is usually about 50-52PSI after key off and holds there for well over 30 minutes.

With the car off it instantly goes up to 40, and then slowly climbs. I don't see why it would go up really fast, and then slow down.

Are the Grand Prixs supposed to be at 50 too?

Pretty much the same care except interior trim and exterior sheet metal.

That's weird how it's acting. If you turn it to on (not started), wait ten seconds, then turn it to off, what pressure does it stay at? Does it hold that pressure for 30 minutes?

I only had about five minutes, but when I did exactly that the pressure kept climbing. I know it sounds crazy. But that is what it did.

I will look at it again, but it's dark right now so it won't be until about 7 PM tomorrow.

I don't know what was going on yesterday, but it has been at 46 PSI for about 15 minutes with no change. I will wait until 1 hour and edit again.

Edit: After 45 minutes, I had lost 4 PSI. Is this normal?
