Used Transmission with Wrong Torque Converter?

Bought a used transmission for me 99 GTP claiming to be from a GTP. My mechanic gets around to putting in the transmission today and says it fits but the torque converter is wrong. I'm wondering what you all think might be the case and answer some questions. Where are the markings on either the trans or TC that would identify whether or not it is a 65e or a 65eHD? If they are both from a 65eHD, what might make it not work? I've got a few days left on a guarantee, maybe I should just get my money back?

Thanks in advance.

pretty sure if you got both trannys side by side you see a difference in the axle tail and diff cover.

if the diff covers are the same someone changed the tc to a na tc for the higher stall speed. and a na flex plate will fix your issue.

if its not a hd tranny the gear change wont go over well with your pcm and unless you have a tuner to change the gears in the pcm it will blow its self up on ya.

Easy way to tell is the diff on the passenger side, a GT axle doesn't fit in a GTP transmission because the length is different.

They also look different.

What's the gm trans I'd say? Those numbers can tell you what it's out of.

They appear to be the same, do they not?
