Upgrading to 3.29 Gears

Hi Guys. I am thinking about upgrading to 3.29 gears in my 98 GTP.
What are the pros and cons of this upgrade? I realize the obvious loss of top end, but how significant is it?

Also, how hard is the replacement of these gears? What all needs to be done?

Please advise.

Well isnt the final drive ratio lower? Therefore you would lose top end mph, rpm quicker.

Anyone changed these gears themselves? What all is entitled?

You lose theoretical top speed, but the car is drag limited long before that. You may actually gain some top speed because of the more aggressive ratio allows you to overcome more drag.

3.29s at least with my setup gained a bunch more low to mid range power. 1st gear is pretty much useless on my setup, course i'm sure the 3000 stall helps with that a bit too. I'm not quite sure yet if I would go with 3.29s again, some days I love it, others I don't. I like it more though and it can be fun. I think at the track it'll shine the most, I have yet to test this out though. On the street, traction doesn't exist till you into 2nd gear.

As for gas mileage, on the highway there might of been 1 MPG difference, thats it. I don't really care about that though.

what would be the best place to buy a 3.29 gear kit, zzp? I am going to rebuild my entire tranny soon i might as well make the investment.

im think the higher the gear mpg suffers. i know the n* guys get 2.92 and 3.73/3.71s and the 3.71s blow the doors off the 2.92s on the highway
