upgrading performance

i have a 2003 GTP and i want to know what the best preformance upgrade for my money will be. i have considered a cold air intake but i'm not sure what my bes t option is
 


Always start out with the basic boltons before you do anything serious like a pulley (intake/exhaust).
 
with you having a gtp... im gonna say the beat thing for the money is the u bend delete in the exhaust... for 40 bucks a exhaust shop will weld a straight pipe and make a bung for your o2 sensor. they said this will net you between 5-7 hp... and for fourty bucks that isnt bad. if you feel like spending a little more a downpipe would also be huge. and if your running close to as much as you want to spend... jusy go buy a cone filter and slap it on... i believe even open cone is better than that airbox. then you can reuse the cone when you get a complete intake system.

As far as Intake goes tdcracing has a fender well intake thats pretty close to the best your ganna get for the money...

As far as mods got though this will probably lead you in the right direction..

^^ YUP! Don't think you can drop pulley sizes with a cat back either because it does nothing for you.

I agree on the U-Bend, but not so much on the open cone...you need colder air the less modded your car is. Having a '03 too...they are a b*tch and a half to tune also...thanks to the '04 Transmission and psycho messed up valve body in the tranny...meaning you can't buy a '98-'02 PCM for your car, just '03 specific.

I just sold my DHP Tuned PCM that I bought back in '07 when they were still in business...too bad...but if superv6 ever gets a custom tune for his car, I'm sure he'd let it go to ya ;)

And another thing...READ, READ, READ...that is the best thing to do...especially that thread that I took all that time to write for all you new guys :D
 
Where can i buy the TDC intake and can you give me more info on how i go about doing the exhaust upgrade your talking about
 


the u-bend delete is very simple I had mine done when i changed to magnaflows my exhaust shop didnt even charge cause i was having other work done

JUst tell any basic exhaust shop you want the u-bend at the rear o2 sensor straight piped with a bung for your o2 sensor

Or you could always get a downpipe and that should solve the problem for you as well.. zzperformance and many others sell them catted or not.

and as said above read as much as you can about the mods and car in general. it will help in your modding and keeping a reliable engine.
 
i have a ton of tire spin off the line.... i put fresh tires on it not too long ago, is there any way i could cut down on the spin?
 
Yea, don't mash the throttle so hard. :) The way I launch at the track is to powerboost up to between 1500 and 2000 RPM. When the light goes green, I drop my foot off the brake and S-L-O-W-L-Y roll into the throttle. For me, that's the way I get my best 60' times. Mashing the gas is just going to make a smoke show...
 


you gotta learn to ease into the throttle. i cant go WOT until im doing at least 20 mph. even then if the road is slick i still squeak them a little.

also, best mod for the money: intercooler.
 
a fullsize one. ZZP has the best aluminum one. otherwise there is a guy on here selling phenolic ones with bigger cores than ZZP uses. i would more than likely buy from him if i was going to go intercooled.
 
o and back to the u bend delete. the only place that i taqlked to that even knew what i was talking about was midas and they said it would cost 75 bucks. do you know anywhere else i could go and will i hear or feel a difference doing this to the exhaust
 


If you have the money get headers. If not get a Front Powerlog and 3" Downpipe as it comes with the u-bend delete.

Try the yellow pages and find a mom and pop type shop midas and the other big ones will usually charge you an arm and a leg just to put ur car on a rack.

And take your car in and show them have them put it on a lift and look at it to give you a price.

Honestly though headers are the way to go kill a few birds with one stone
Or at least plog and dp that would only be like 200 and if your a little handy with a wrench not to bad to install..

Most places have no clue what you will be talking about if you say you want to delete your U-bend. Take it to a small privately owned shop and have them put it on a rack. Then show them where the u-bend is and tell them you want that part cut out and replaced with a straight pipe and have the O2 sensor repositioned so that it comes out of the side of the exhaust pipe rather than the top like it is now. I paid $40 for this to be done to my car...it shouldn't cost $75.
 
like they were sayin... most exhaust shops dont have experience doing custom jobs for these cars. but if you just show them they will get the concept and with how easy it is to do... it definitely shouldnt cost 75 bucks
