Update on my fuel rails

I went to the site and the prices were reasonable. I am going to send them mine Monday. After 110K it has to be a good idea. Plus while I have everything off its a good time to do it.

are you using deatschwerks? iirc this is the company WBS gets there injectors from.
 
David you need to replace that one thats broken. Because over time the injector could wiggle around and come un seated that clip that broke off also helps hold the injector in its seat to keep a tight seal in the rail
 
Could you just run two -rings? cause that part looks like roughly the same size as the o-ring..... Just an Idea

With the rails in place I don't see how there would be any movement.
 
I dont see either how it would come unseated. The fit is pretty tight to begin with, plus you have the rail itself physically holding the injector in place. My concern would be leaking primarily.

Thats what I wondered. If the rail holds the injector in place how does that clip do anything but hold the O-ring on? For such an important part why does everyone only stocks O-Rings for replacement. Why not have the O-Ring and clip available for replacement? Obviously it must be a common problem. With time and heat these things must get brittle.
 
They do become brittle. I think you would be fine because the O-Ring would be the part would be there and Im sure with the rails holding everything down there probably would not be an issue. However, its not something I would feel particularly comfortable trying out.
 
I know, all I can pictue is fuel spraying on my new valve covers or worse yet I get it all put back together looking sweet and then FIRE!!!
 


The "clip" is a molded piece so it's not replaceable. Many many people run these w/o the lower oring retainer w/o issue. I think new properly installed orings is the key here. I believe the injector to rail retainer is the clip.

Disclaimer: I've been wrong in the past, so one should really verify anything I say.

It would be helpful here, if you merely suggest that this could be an issue. stating this as fact is irresponsible. We understand your concern. However, if you look at all of the different type of injectors available for these motors, pretty much NONE of them have the same style or size body/clip/ANYTHING past the O-Ring. some are similar to the OE clip part that broke. most look noting like it, smaller even. so that missing part is not going to affect how the injector holds in it's bore-- if it did, every other injector would be made exactly the same way. -- the fuel rail holds the injector in place, the O-ring seals it.
 
I appreciate everyone's input. Thats what I love about this board everyone helping out. This forum has saved me time and money!

This is correct.

Replacing your stock injectors is not needed till your maxing yours out. You will know this by scanning and watching the IPW etc. during WOT runs.

Also cracks me up when people say they found their fuel leak...they forgot to install their injector clip. Time and time again I tell people these clips have nothing to do with the injector sealing or not, they are there to hold the injector to the rail, so when the rail is removed, all injectors come out at the same time, vs. pulling the rail, then each injector one by one.

If your injector is leaking, then the fuel rail is not correctly installed onto the LIM, or you have an injector missing its hole all together. Its not rocket science how these parts go together. LOL

Thanks! You guys are so much help. I was losing sleep until I started asking questions on this board. I think I'll get through my spring build aok.
 
Well, just as I was about to send my injectors off for cleaning and flow matching I found a deal on a set of 38lb Lucas Steel Jacket Injectors. Has anyone had experience with these? I bought them slightly used for a little more than I wouldve paid to have my stockers refreshed and tested. Plus I figured this would leave the door open if I heavily mod the car in the future.
I was told I can run a stock program file on my PCM and that it will just run rich. I have an upgraded PCM, but I still plan on a tune. I just want to be able to drive the car until a tune.
