*UPDATE* help with possible warped rotor problem..

so this might be the dumbest thing you heard in awhile but here it goes...after noticing pads were getting worn i decided to do all around drilled/slotted rotors,i believe they are powerstop and pads are monroe ceramic. long story short, everything worked great and smooth for about 300 miles, then i parked car behind our barn due to snow and below zero temps for 2 months!..i drive car tonight for 1st time and when i hit the brakes, feels as if rotors are warped,i can even feel it in the steering wheel....now... car rolls and drives fine, could it be minor flat spots in tires due to being frozen to the ground for 2 months and i only notice while braking due to force put on the front tires??..i cant believe the rotors are warped after just sitting?? any input would be appreciated!

** UPDATE**
so after further investigation,i discovered 2"spots" of imbedded rust/scale on each rotor.one on the outside and one on the inside. i removed them and sanded down with 80 grit paper on a da sander and cured the problem. the rears were fine but got a quick buff as well while i was doing it.braking has been restored to a smooth quiet experience. so rotors were not warped and tires are fine,[except for dryrot] but thats another issue..

Re: help with possible warped rotor problem..

When the car sat, the rotors got rust on them basically everywhere except where the pads were. Now, when you decided to drive it, you have rust buildup everywhere but that one spot. The rust wears off and leaves the rotor slightly thinner everywhere it actually had rust. Now you have rotors that have excessive lateral runout making you think they're warped. This is a well known condition on used car lots called "lot rot."

Re: help with possible warped rotor problem..

I would have the rotors turned, I don't think it costs that much to do, I'm guessing $15 a piece.

Re: help with possible warped rotor problem..

so once i drive around and it gets "ground off" i should be good to go? funny thing is the car sets ALOT and this is the 1st time its ever had any issue.i figured its been sooo cold here this winter that the cold had an effect on something, but i dont see anyone from canada or Minnesota having issues,so i have a hrd time blaming that now...

Re: help with possible warped rotor problem..

No, it's not going to get better. They need to be machined. Drilled/slotted rotors typically have a higher iron/steel content since they have holes/grooves. So when they rust, it's material lost from the rotor.

hmmm..maybe a call to summit racing..cant believe my grandmothers rotors on her sunday driver are warped already! Haha
i have the old rotors,i may swap and see what happens...

Re: help with possible warped rotor problem..

It takes a lot of heat to warp rotors. And you will never generate enough heat to do it.

Re: help with possible warped rotor problem..

You can warp a rotor, hit a puddle wrong when the rotors r eeally hot ,bam, warppage

Re: help with possible warped rotor problem..

hmmm..well im not sure what the heck happened..but something def did.i havent swapped out for my old front rotors yet..figuring if i swap and braking is fine,i will be doing a return...or resurface! this is very irritating...guess bad stuff happens when stuff sits!

Re: help with possible warped rotor problem..

I would pull your tire and check for parallelism on your rotor. Put your tire back on and check for bearing play. That would give you a good start

I would also replace your calipers if they have over 100,000 on them :-)

Re: help with possible warped rotor problem..

well, car has 67k on it..and like i say,it braked straight and smooth as could be before it sat for so long..when i get into it,ill check bearing and everything else i can up front..

Re: help with possible warped rotor problem..

i have update with a pic of the problem in the original 1st post if you want to see it,thanks for everyones input and help

yup!....amazing how a small patch like that made such a difference! the pic is hard to see,but it was really hard to get off,i had to really bare down on the sander to move the stuff off!
