understanding dexron

I would like someone to educate me about dextron. Is it a brand or just a set of standards GM created for fliuds?

In addition I am planning on a tranny oil change and undestand how, just not happy dishing out around $70 right now. All I can find is QT size botles. I did find this

Yeah, you want Dexron VI. I'd say to get whatever's cheapest - it shouldn't matter what brand it is, since it needs to meet or exceed certain specifications. I have heard nothing about anyone's preference for any brand on this. Similarly, I can't recall any of the brands making faulty or bad Dexron VI.
