Turning signal relay?

OK guys i need help.
Yesterday i installed some sequential LED turn signals for my side mirror.
When i tested them on a constant 12v source they worked fine, like this:

...but when i hooked them up like your supposed to, to the respective side turning signal wire.
The fist set of led only work. The OEM turning signal relay/flasher is making them do this.
The OEM turning signal flashes too fast and doesn't allow for my new sequential leds to work properly.
Do you guys have any ideas on how to fix this?
 


Your car does not have a turn signal relay. the blinking of the turn signals is controlled by the BCM, so what is happening is probably hyperflash, like you would get with LED turn signals. With that being said if you install the magic resistor, like with LEDs then your hyperflash should cease to exist.
 
I don't think its hyperflash, but i will look into that.
I'm thinking that my OEM blinker wire doesn't send constant juice therefore my sequentials reset and get stuck on the first row of LEDs.

IM adding the LEDs not replacing OEM bulbs.

He is correct, the car's turn signals are controlled by the BCM. Unfortunately, the only way to fix this issue is to splice in load resistors.

But to be honest I don't think they'll work....there isn't a constant 12volt source to the turn signals when using them...its an on off power supply

The "flasher" in 2004 and above Grand Prix is indeed in the BCM, and the noise is generated within the instrument cluster.

Each incandescent bulb has 21 watts of resistance. "Flashers" need that resistance to control the speed of the flash, and when the resistance isn't there, the remaining bulbs will "hyperflash." This tells the driver that one of the bulbs is burnt out. It's a design feature of the system.

On older cars with the old 552 flashers, you can get a "LED" version that ignores the missing resistance. With the modern flasher integrated in the BCM and cluster, you're forced to use those ugly resistors others are telling you to use. You'll need one at each LED location.

These things are beefy resistors...as resistors go. If my math is right...and that's no sure thing...21 watts at 12 volts gives about a amp plus draw. Even at 50 watts, those suckers are gonna get hot. They will melt plastic. The standard recommendation is to mount them against metal and away from plastic.

It's amazing how much current a tungsten filament will carry.
 
... but what gets me is that im not removing the stock bulbs, im keeping them.
Would adding the LEDs cause hyperflash even if the OEM bulbs are there?
What about my HIDs.. would they cause hyperflash.. i removed my stock bulbs there.

Because you are not using the constant power it doesnt have time to cycle in the time it blinks. I considered those for my mirror project but got to thinking that the blinking signal would be a problem. My only guess is that you have to find the wire from the signal stick before it gets to the relay I believe (Think its a relay that makes the signal blink). Once you find that constant wire you will need to run your power from that and then find a constant ground would be my best guess.

Does this make sense?

You are correct, in order for the sequential to function properly it will require a power source that gives it enough time to cycle.

Makes perfect sense. Ill have to tear into my dash this weekend.

Thats what i thought...
Maybe i can catch the wires before they hit the BCM.

Paul got me thinking... do i need resisters if i have rear LED tails?
lol but thanks guys ill figure something out and let you guys know how it went... for future reference.l
