well that would be fantastic, then I could race my mom lol. she just got a G8, only the v6 model but still a sweet car(yum)...anyways. So a top swap or something like that is what you suggest? and is it not recommended to go to the junk yard and pick up a blower out of an old GP?


oh, is there any way I can make this sound like an old muscle car without it sounding like a junker and smelling bad?
 
you could, but you have an 05, so you will probably not be able to find one very easy. there is a guy on here selling a gen5 for $600 with the lim, gaskets too.

Its too bad you have a gen5 with throttle by wire or i could sell you a ported and polished gen3 blower for cheap.

Could just use the L32 bottom end with a L67 topend. Your basically swapping out the topend anyway, GenV setup might be a bit more expensive like you said. There are many gen3 s/c setups running L32 bottom ends.
 


The supercharger or the bottom end?

GenIII's and GenV's are basically the same design for the "most" part, but GenV's are more efficient...as they make as much power as a GenIII on a larger pulley.

Blocks...the L67 and L32 have the same compression I think (8.5:1?) but most of the L32 bottom ends have stronger, powered rod's.
 
To tell you the truth I don't know what the bottom end consists of, I feel I know less about engines and SC than i thought...
 
the thing is, super chargers have a lower adiabatic effeciency, or however you spell it. the turbos lack the lower end power that a super charger does though. even with an intercooler, the s/c can only suck in so much air and compress it at high rpms. with a turbo, it builds boost with exhaust pressure...so the higher flow rates at higher rpms (since you are using exhaust to feed intake...) it will flow more and more. essentially it will keep boosting the engine til it explodes, that is the purpose of waste gate and blow off valve, so you dont loose your bacon! but for the money you want to spend (however much that is) it would be better to buy the top swap. you wont have to route pipes, make custom stuff work, and what not...or tune it out so many times at a shop. but they both need tuned tho, dont get me wrong. turbos take a lot of attention and time (dont foget money!!!) to get running just right.

As far as my post about the gen5, i was talking about the throttle by wire, you would have to make an adapter to run that, can be done, i can do it and can sell you a kit to install if you want, just let me know. PM me if interested.
 


I suppose Ill see what I can do about getting everything for a top swap and read the tutorial on how to do it and see how it goes.

smaller trim equals less top flow and power band...but if you get a scrolling turbo, it acts like a smaller turbo at lower flow rates, less lag...and at higher rpms, opens up and is a larger trim, kinda cool technology, but just go with the m90. am considering one myself from minichopper!!
 
If anything the little lag there is helps with traction on the launch. When you hammer it while going 40mph and the tires break loose you don't really think about lag, your just thinking "O ****!"

Then you start throwing in a cam, bigger i/c and then you break tires loose going 50-60mph.
 
twincharged, im tired of saying it lol
FWIW when i finally get around to it, im running a massive turbo on the back so that i can have mid to high end power.

Twincharged has its drawbacks too though. You normally have 2 intercooler systems, w/a, a/a one to keep each power adder temps. down. The blower case alone has its limits, without the rotors in it becomes a restriction at high rpm's. With the twincharged setup and the bbv open it is restricted not only by the blower but the I/C plate. That i/c alone has been said to be restrictive after 400hp and the m90 is still robbing some power. The only real benefits of having a twincharged setup come in when you run larger turbo's. After a T67 or so the lag becomes a factor and twincharged is a formidable route. It's not frowned upon to go a twincharged route, but when you run a small turbo and go twincharged it's kind of just for showing off, no real benefits.
