Tuning problems

My car is a 1997 GTP with 3.4, headers, intake, 104s, 180*, dhp tune with some adjustments. The problem. After my buddy writes a new file to my computer, right after start up and I start to drive, the car will not shift until I let off the gas completely. It did this for about 30 miles the other day then finally went to shifting normal. Every time we do a write it does this though. Anyone ever had this problem? Also if I just reset the computer by unplugging the battery for 30 minutes it does not do this. Along with when the tuner is saving the log data, it won't download all the data and we have to cancel it. We still get a log but sometimes a lot of info is missing. What the f? It works fine on his car. It's a DHP tuner. So anybody ever experienced this?

We have been trying to find the cause of knock and work on the tune, but it is being very difficult. We thought maybe the TPS, but when I reset it by unhooking battery the problem is not there.

Also forgot when we do a rewrite 10 codes show up. Like IAT code, MAF, TPS, all p01xx codes I think. I have them written down at the house. Then his tuner will not pick them up but can clear then. While my scangauge will be able to read them.

If he's using the DHP scanning software, there are known issues and it is no longer supported. He needs to start using UVScan or get a copy of it. The 97's are kind of wierd when it comes to pcm's, he needs to be making sure the pcm is correct for that year (wiring not changed to use a 98 pcm) and that the files are correct as well. Did he read the current file on the car, then write? Or a whole new file? Did he do a partial write or full? Did he clear fuel trims after every write?

It's not a 98 PCM. It would not even read the file till he updated the software, but reads fine on his car. So we put a stock tune on then tweaked it a bit with zzp base file. We did full writes any time something was changed. We changed the TPS and did not make a difference. I think it is just relearning the shift. What we are worried most about is the knock now. After doing a run we noticed the TP% was not matching up with the MAF frequencies. At like 61% throttle it was at around 9400hz. When on his car 9400hz is 91% TP. And seeing how the files are to big to post I can't post them here. F***!!!!!

I have HPT, so this might not carry over, but I never do full writes, I just click "write calibration only" and after 38 seconds its done and I'm on my way.

Yeah, I've realized I'm less worried about that than I am about what is up with the MAF freq to TP% in the knock area. It just won't let me post the scans. Also it has a new ac delco MAF.

Are you sure you know what your doing?

To check the TPS, check it with the car off, no throttle applyed should read 0-1% and all the way down 100%. If you get those numbers the TPS is working correctly.

I would try doing a MAF tune to make sure the MAF/car knows how much air flow its getting.

You also didnt tell us where and when the car is even seeing this KR and how much.

It could be that some of your tables arent setup correctly and causing the car to do things that you wouldnt expect.

Well seeing how my buddies car is knock free and he has been tuning for a while I would think he knows what he is doing. We have been doing the MAF tune then saw that. PM me your email and I will send the scans. I don't understand near as much as he does though, that is why i'm not tuning it.

What is your buddies car? You keep friggin saying things are good on his..but I'm wanting to beat you for not telling us what it is..lol

What I'm hearing is...you tried to read the file and DHP was typical DHP and the file wasn't supported. So you flashed another bin onto it. check and see what OSID is on it currently and what OSID's are acceptable. Use this site to see what your pcm/car should have TIS Likely you'll find that ZZP file is a 98 OSID, which might map some of the wiring incorrectly on the pcm. ZZP for a long time seemed to be putting one 98 bin into a lot of pcm's of all years. This was not ideal. If you need a 97 Bin to start with, hit up BonnevillePro.com under the tuning section. I have the listing of supported OSID's and then in the bin repository is all the supported OSID's by car and year.

Cam... with DHP you never ever ever ever want to do a partial write. It's a DHP thing. Using DHP is like tuning with rocks most of the time. However there's some stuff HPT can't do. Hence.. having both is awesome.

My OSID is 16252965 which it says is supported, but I don't see any GP bin files nor can I even look at the ones on there until my registration is approved. He is going to look whenever he gets home, but he is sure it's a 97 bin.

You are approved. Go for it.

Okay so I found out it is a 97 bin file on my car, that is compatible. Different number than mine, but still a 97 and the only one that would work. I have the file and the scans, but they are too large to post. What can I do?

Here are the codes and the first scan is modified timing, second is stock.

In reply to your pm and after looking over what has been suggested, I agree with what has been said already. It is likely that the OSID of the bin that is currently in the vehicle is not correct. Use the websites bill mentioned to locate the most current OSID and use it as the base for your tuning. As for the tp% vs maf. It is possible the maf is dirty. But rarely will one cars tp vs maf be the same. Especially when diff mods are installed.

The bin file on my car now is #16243643. Which is a 97 L67 bin that is one of the listed ones that are compatible. I also think we were having trouble with any of the other 97 files wanting to write to the pcm. If it's a 97 file and my OSID is 16252965 should it matter? Did you happen to look at the scans?

MAF is brand new AC Delco as well.
