• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Tuning difficulty

I have been going through my Overkill tune and comparing it to the stock. I am amazed at the amount of changes that are made on the overkill tune. I always had respect for tuners but now I am amazed at the skill and time required to properly tune. I don't know how they decide what needs to be changed and by how much. Have any of you taken tuning classes to learn this craft?

theres a bit more to it than that. ^^^

lots of reading helps to understand things. the why's? im sure the canned tuned companys had some kind of schooling at some point, then it comes to real world test and tuning to get where they are today.

3800's are the easy end of tuning, these computers are just plain stupid compared to something LS related or ford related.

Look at any of those and they have 5x the amount of tables to mess with.

I've owned a tuning software since 2012, took several months to understand most things and a few years to get really good at it. I'm far from a pro or anything but I know enough now, still many platforms I haven't even tried to understand yet.

That is true. 3800's are by far the easiest pcm I've tuned to date.

Dhp came out first. They didn't have a class or a user guide. There were a few smart guys that created writeups though, such as Jerry H and webracin. I learned a lot of the basics from those guys. Plus there used to be a Dhp forum that had some good info on it.

But, with what we know now, most of that stuff is somewhat incorrect.

Yeah I know, i'm just playing around.

A ****load of trial and error is involved and....days on a dyno for sure. I've probably spent 250 hours in the tuner and I would consider myself less than a rookie.

I'd like to see that tune file if your using HPT ;-)

theres a few in the drop box thread. far more dhp files vs htp tho.

if you have the older htp program you can read a dhp bin file and veiw it of course.

I really hope we don't share Will's files. He does great work to run his business, and I'd hate to see someone share his base tunes to the public.

I've seen a file or two on HP Tuners already.

DHP guys have a few out there already too. You can find just about any shops/creators files out there now, so long as they don't tuner lock them.
