ive got a 98 gtp im working on right now, and up until today the trunk has popped open just fine with the remote. The battery has been out and unhooked, and when i reinstalled it today the trunk will not pop open. the headlights flash, and you can hear the relay clicking inside but the trunk wont pop open. anyone have any ideas on what could cause this im kind of at a loss? thanks everyone

Does it open with the button in the glovebox open it? What about the key?

Does your car start now that the battery is back in?

Have you checked fuses.

no since ive bought the car the button in the glovebox hasnt worked, i think it may just be unhooked in the back, but the keyfob button has always opened it until now. and im not sure what happened to the lock cylinder, the key only goes in half way, i was planning on gettin a new one, i just gotta get it open first.

and everything motor wise is out of the car, im rebuilding the motor, and trans so its all out right now.

as far as fuses i havent checked them but i would think if relay is clicking, and lights are flashing the circut is getting power?

problem solved. after some research i found out that the trunk will not open without the key if there is an issue with the PRNDL switch or wiring to it. the lights will flash, and the relay will click like its opening but if the PRNDL is not telling the computer the car is in park, it wont send power to the trunk popper.

yupp! thats why you can pop your trunk with the car in drive. Just in case you do haul dead bodies, they wont fly out on the highway! Just push the shifter toward the engine more, thatll do it.

or your reverse light fuse might be popped its wired through there......i had this problem for awhile then discovered this.

check to see if your reverse lights are working.
