I have a 2002 GTP with 80k miles. I figured I’d take it in for a "tune up" but I’d appreciate some thoughts on the following to arm me with a bit of knowledge before I do that (I’ve had a couple problems with incompetent mechanics in the past). Thanks!
The car starts fine and idles smooth however over the past few days I started to notice it hesitating and running rough (shakes the car) when I’d accelerate. At first it only happened with harder acceleration (around 30% boost maybe) but now it has gotten much more frequent and happens even with much more slight acceleration. Nevertheless, it doesn’t stall and if I stay on the gas, once it revs past a certain point the roughness ceases and it has decent power.
On two occasions when this happened the check engine light started flashing for about a minute and then stopped. One of these times it was flashing while I was stopped at a traffic light and I smelled sulfur odor though I’m not sure whether it was from my car.
