trouble installing halfshaft

i'm having trouble getting the new half shaft in. do i have to push it in very hard? i got the old one out with hitting it with a hammer and a extension. so i figure its gonna take some force. but im afraid if i hammer on the end where the nut goes that i might damage it. any suggestions thanks. this is the passenger side on a GT by the way.

No, you don't hammer on the end. The axle is designed to compress so you would only move the inner joints, and possibly damage them.

It should just snap in. That's what both mine did when I replaced them.

It shouldnt take a lot of force to get it back on, but you do have to get it over that snap ring that holds it in place. You dont want to hammer it on there, Id be concerned more so that it would hurt the axle than the threads.

Ive pulled mine out and put them back on about four times now and Ive never had any trouble getting them back on. Is the drivers side wheel still on and on the ground? You might want to check the input shaft on that side. If you push on it does it push in very far? If so, there may be other issues. If not then you may just have to man handle it a little.

If Trannyman stops in here and sees this Im sure he'll have more tips/advice for you than I could ever dream of.
