Transmission

Okay well my car was at a shop today and they said i need to get my transmission flushed because the fluid is kinda dark. I was reading on here though that its bad to get the trans flushed because it could free up stuff that is holding things together? should i just get the pan dropped and get the fluid changed or should i go for the full flush. BTW my trans slips very slightly into 4th and its been doing it for over a year.

Your tranny is going to die soon, fourth gear hub means things are not good in there.

pan drop if anything.

I'd rather save the $200 and put it towards the inevitable.

Yea. stupid thing. I keep it in 3 while driving around town but when im on the highway which is usually once a week ill put it into drive. I dont have the money for a new transmission right now either..

Well first is for fourth to get worse and worse till it wont stay in fourth.

Then give it some more time and those metal shavings will do more damage.

Some go for a while without fourth.

Others have it go very shortly thereafter.

Then I'm not even sure your tranny is dying.

Generall it slips in and out of fourth gear when it starts to go.

well when it shifts into fourth gear its almost like the car was put into neutral for like .3 seconds. Theres no loss of power though. And once its in 4th gear its completely fine. some people dont even notice it but i notice EVERYTHING haha.

300 ms shift time isn't great but it isn't terrible either.

150 is a better time. but i've seen as high as 800 ms.

I had the slight "overrun" going into OD also, all I did was raise the shift 3-4 pressure 3psi and it cleared it up nicely. With 150,000 miles on it, it still shifts good.
I am thinking about getting one from a GT for the better gearing and rebuild it and have it for when the time inevitabley comes. Are the better gears worth it for a GTP, or does traction become a big problem?
