Transmission Slipping on 97GTP. Interchange?

I have a 97 GTP with over 200k on it, The transmission is starting to slip on it, I want to get a used transmission and put it in, My question is what do I need to look for for a 4t65e-hd? does it have to be from a grand prix or will that trans out of another model work? I found a couple for sale but they show having the 3.29 ratio, whats the ratio on the GTPs?

From my understanding is the 1997 SE and GT models still used the 4t60e vacuum controlled trans and the 97 GTP models had the 4t65E along with all 98-03 3800. am I correct?

Basically I want to know what my options are for a used tranny.
 


Only the GT in 97 has the 4t60e, everything else has either the 4t65e or the 4t65e-hd, from what I have read you can use a 4t65e and just put the differential driveshaft and there was something else but I cant remember what it is off the top of my head, and it will work.
 
Ok, I found a locak guy that has a trans out of a GT with a ZZP shift hit and a HD conversion kit in it with 50 on it, what will I need to do to make it work having the 3.29s?
 


no, ZZP will kill your car if anything.

Just gotta have a guy with hp tuners do it.


But for real man, why on earth do you want to create more headache for yourself. Just buy a GTP tranny and do a direct swap.
