Hey Forum,

Today I decided to change the transmission fluid and filter on my 99 grand prix (the fluid was getting burned) and it was a uneventfull job untill i tried adding the new trans. fluid dextron 6 i beleive, I have tried two different trans. pan gaskets both leak really bad do I need to use some kind of make a gasket product to seal it? It is currently leaking the fluid into a pan I have under the car. I need this car to get to work tommorow. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

Was the factory gasket bad? If not you should use that one. Double check all your bolts make sure you didnt over tighten them.

Metal gasket is the only one that wont leak.

How is that even close to true ?I have 0 leaks with my Autozone rubber gasket never had a issue ever. If you having a issue maybe your cooler lines might be the problem I can't imagine your trans pan being that messed up

Ok I found and reinstalled the factory gasket and its still leaking its not pouring out like it was but it is dripping out slowly in several spots. Any idea?

Check the gasket carefully is it bend clean it good could be dirt on it keeping it from sealing properly You may want to go to a dealer and get a new metal gasket

Ok well i'm just going to pack it in for the night and mess with it tomorrow after work. Thanks for all of your help. And PartsLady you might be right I'll try cleaning the gasket tomorrow. Thanks again.

also with the bolts on the pan.. tighten from the middle to the edges... the bolts may all not be tight.. i also used factory over and over...

x2 on checking the pan to make sure it is flat.. if you or someone has over tightened it before, it may be dimpled up far enough that the in-between sections are not sealing.

Always wipe off the trans where the gasket sits
Always wipe off the gasket
Always wipe off the pan edge where the gasket sits.
Finger tight the bolts to begin with, then torque to 120inch lbs/12 ft lbs.

If you don't do those automatically..... holding my comment.

OK here is an update, I found, cleaned up and re installed the old gasket it leaked a little at first but once the engine and transmission went through a couple of heating and cooling cycle's it stopped leaking. Thanks for all your help.
