I have a 2007 Pontiac grand prix gt and I'm looking at transmission intercoolers, where can I find a good quality intercooler for a desent price.
 


I just started getting tranny whine like a new born baby over the last few days, thanks guys but I think my intercoooler plans may be spoiled...
 


These transmissions really don't need coolers. Check your fluid levels and do a filter change, don't flush the fluid since that can cause more problems down the road. But as said before the power steering is more likely to whine than the trans.

But if your dead set on a cooler then summit racing has good inexpensive ones. Look up oil coolers on there.
 
Why is that comedy. I spoke to Dave from triple edge about coolers a year ago and that's exactly what he said about the coolers. If the trans is overheating, above 225, then there is a problem with the trans. The only time a cooler is really needed is if your towing stuff.
 
Hot temperatures can cause hot trans fluid too. You live a bit further north so might not experience the everyday 90* temps in the summer. I've seen my trans temps around 220* a few times on those hotter days and a trans cooler would have been a HUGE aid on those days. Trans coolers are preventative maintenance.
 


220 is normal. Mine typically runs 198-215 regardless of outside temp. Driving conditions effect the trans temp more than the weather. Have the trans temp too low all the time is bad for the trans too, the fluid won't thin out and can cause too much pressure.

As a rule of thumb I've always been told that the trans temp should be within 15* of engine temps.
 
Outside temps GREATLY affect trans temps. We've finally had some cooler mornings (low 60's) and the other day I saw 167* the whole drive to work. The drive home it was over 200* and it was driven exactly the same.

A trans cooler isn't going to keep your temps at 70*, its going to maintain them in the 150-180 range which is much healthier for the overall health of your trans.
 
Sorry after going through some old emails your right it should be between 160-180, and with proper cooling shouldn't go above 190. Looks like I might have a cooling issue :(
