Transmission Cooler

I want to add an external trans cooler this weekend. Whats a good size to get? They get more and more expensive the larger they get, so i want to be sure i buy the one i "need" and not one for a cummings diesel or something rediculously large. Any recommendations?

I got mine from Checker auto parts, it is cheaper HERE. I used the "678" model rated for 24,000LBS and bypassed the cooler in the radiator. Now my trans and engine both stay cooler even in stop and go.

David at TEP installed mine that way too, no issues so far and a nice cool trans. I have about 6k on Dave's trans, fluid still smells and looks like it just came out of the bottle.

After attaching the lines and clamps, but before mounting it to the radiator, turn the engine on and let the fluid circulae while holding he cooler in one of the recommended positions.

That's exactly as my (2) 18,000 GVW coolers are mounted, one on each side-no issues for 30,000 miles now! I installed my first trans cooler in 1978 on a Nova SS and besides my GP have a Long 24,000 GVW cooler on my 94 Mustang GT Convertible now for 14 years with zero issues. It is fine mounted that way. BTW-Have never had a trans failure running the cooler outside of the radiator.

On my GXP the stock tyranny temp was round 220 in the summer but I added two extra coolers to it and now it stays in the 170 range. They help alot
