ok well at this point im assuming my transmission is toast.

at idle i am get a rotation clunking noise from around the inspection plate, the gear shifts are lagging or missing and harsh shifts.

the following codes are listed

P0717
P0716
P0730
P1811

has anyone seen this before?? i just want an idea of what im in for

dave if you read this, any ideas?

as well i have obtained a 4t65e out of a 01 monte carlo and how would i tell if it is the same gear ratio of the one that i have

thanks

Mike

P0717 Input speed sensor no signal
P0716 Input speed sensor signal open/intermittent
P0730 Incorrect gear ratio
P1811 Max adapt shift

Ok, first thing is always google and at least list out the names of the codes you are providing, some folks will skip past your post if you don't try to help us help you. I'm in a good mood and hooked ya up.

Max adapt shift is the trans trying to limp you along and commanding max pressure. Usually a by product of another issue.

Incorrect gear ratio, based on the lack of the pcm seeing the input speed. It's likely saying WTF about the gear ratio.

Input speed sensor issues, hmm yes this is an issue. I would say either your ISS reluctor wheel has some off the gear (you mention noises) or there's an issue with the sensor and or wiring. A sensor/wiring won't cause noises though.

So.. I'll link you to pics of what happens.

Willing to bet that you may just have a input shaft speed sensor issue, as a missing input shaft wheel would not cause a "open circut" code.

Since you have a noise to go with the codes- which are related other than P1811 may have already been there, I would bet your input speed sensor alignment pins got hammered off and it is freely rolling around in there. With no ISS signal it will throw an incorrect gear ratio code since the input rpm is not doing much if anything at all. A quick scan will will show transmission iss rpm and prove what it is or is not doing.

Hey

Billboost thanks for the link and all the info I appreciate it, I'm a licensed automotive technician and at the end of the day I get lazy on anything to do with my own car. Lol

The noise happens almost all the time and it is a clunking like noise. Sort of like a spun rod bearing but I've narrowed it with my stethoscope to behind the transmission inspection Plate.

I have hooked up the scan tool to look at the iss rpm and at idle it will be reading zero and if I rev the engine it will all of sudden start reading with values jumping from 400 to 800 and while driving it's all over the place as well

I do have another transmission ready to go in but I was wondering if anyone has seen this before. I'm always looking to Learn more about our cars.

Mike
