• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Transmission acting weird during startup

So when I crank the car it starts perfect...When I shift into Reverse it feels like there is no pressure, but if I give it gas it goes in reverse no problem...When i shift from reverse into drive The RPMs go up to around 1200 (from 900) and the car wants to pull without any gas...It only does this when its a cold start...I just had this tranny rebuilt a year ago, and the fluid is still nice and bright red (and filled to a good level). I took it to the shop and they said there is nothing wrong, but I figured id ask some advice from you guys.

dont quote me on this but i had a guy come into the store one time and said he had weird shifting issues and it ended up being his throttle position sensor. do you have a ses light?

thought i would put my 2 cents in on this one... my car does the same thing minus me having to give it some throttle to get it into reverse. I was told to check the IAC on the throttle body and clean it. I plan on doing this later tonight. Ill let you know if this solves the problem

possible vac leak, if ur boosted start with rubber T under snout and trace ur way around all the vac lines... my rubber T being disconnected caused several codes and funny trans shifts.

It would help if we knew what you drove. Some 97's have a vacuum controlled trans, but most of the cars have an electronically controlled trans.

I'm having the same problem Having to give it gas to get it to shift into reverse from a cold start. It's actually freaked me out.
