Trans Upgrade?

I have a 97 GT and I am curious to as how I would go about installing a 4t65e. I want to keep this car, so selling isn't an option. I currently am broke so its not happening anytime soon, but I just want to know what to plan for.

I knew the parts, but I was wondering if it would just simply drop in or will some slight modifications be necessary for the tranny to fit. So it sounds like TEP can set me up to where my local mechanic can put it in. awesome.:th_winking:

if you are going from 97 to a newer electronicly controlled trans, the wiring harness that plugs to the side of the trans will not fit.

best bet would be to get your new trans and have ur shop switch the internals i would guess.

Been here...done this.

If you are tuning with DHP, you should be able to do it. Get a trans connector off a 4T65E, 5 pcm pins with some wire, the trans and both axles.

Do the swap, convert over the connector (there's about 7 wires on your connector that map right over) then add in the additional 5 wires to the location they'd be if your car had been supercharged. Drag and drop the trans file from a supercharged to your bin and program it up.

only thing I did differently was I did this on a 96 Riviera, therefore we just used a 97 pcm that had the 65E as a trans. But I've seen guys drag and drop most of the trans section on a DHP w/o problems.

thnx for all the info, but since i started this thread my car has really gone to crap. to the point where the tranny is the least of my worries. I don't think she is going to be around much longer as I am not going to put in another engine. So instead of swapping trannies I think I might just get a GTP when she does finally go (again).
