Trans trouble

I have a 1998 3800 suoercharged. The problem I;m having is that when you first start the car and put it into gear it takes off fine. Then about a half mile down the road it's like you shift into nuetral. You can then turn the car off wait a couple of seconds restart and it will take off and shift out fine for anther half mile or so and do the samething. If anyone has any ideas or has seen this problem before please let me know the cure.

Thanks

This problem can pop up for a number of reasons, and is more common on higher mileage transmissions. Often it is because of low fluid/worn seals/more commonly a plugged trans filter as a result of excessive trans wear and debris collecting inside the fitler. Have you checked the fluid level with the car warmed up? Torque converter clutch failure is a big cause of this as it will emit a lot of debris and can plog up the filter. The easiest thing to do is to drop the pan for an inspection then remove the filter and cut it open to see how it looks.
