had the trans rebuilt 40k miles ago. 4t65e .
been having what i would describe as a hollow sound cominbg from the right front for a little bit now but couldnt pinpoint it. occasioanlly when backing up id have a rather harsh jerking/grining/ something like broken teeth on sprokets type feel.
tonight it got bad then all done. no more moving. got some crazy nises comin from internally on the right side now.
i think its going back to the trans shop( but NOT who did it before) but wonderin if anyone "might" know wth happened.
kind of pissed as i dont beat on my car and 40k miles on a rebuild??

Yes it's on the right side, and can usually be fixed without removing the transmission. I would lean towards that as well.

If something failed in the trans, there's a good chance there are metal bits in the pan or on the pan magnet. You should start there if you think it's the transmission. It still takes some work to get the diff cover off.

And you could also jack up the front and listen for noises with the car in neutral when turning the wheels. Another step to diagnose is to disconnect the flexplate from the torque converter and then run the engine. You have to do that anyway if you're going to take out the transmission.

sadly when you get a "rebuild" from a shop, they only replace whats broken and re use everything else. so they likely reused your old diff.

i suppose that warranty is over already. from the last rebuild.

update:
a friend is taking care of this for me and had it towed to her mechanic- who come to find out doesnt do transmission work.
it FINALLY got to a trans shop today- one recommended by her mechanic. talked to the owner/ lead mechanic about it- let him know what happened and all that. after talking with him for a while,im pretty optimistic that its not going to get a "replace whats worn" fix.
wont get on a lift until possibly tuesday but definately wednesday of next week.

update- got te car back on wednesday. differential went out. complete rebuild- supposedly but now im questioning it and heres why:
about 100 miles of driving, i seemed to have developed a power steering leak on the pressure line. leaking where it sits on the sub frame. supposedly is was leaking when they pulled it in, which the car wouldnt move so questioning that. they cut the line and put a chunk of rubber hose and hose clamps on the line, which wasnt authorized and they didnt inform me of the hack patch when i picked it up.

talked to manager by phone on friday. theyre trying to say it came in that way. im callin BS. if it was leaking when it showed up they would have/should have called me to inform me of it. even said he knew this was going to come back to bite him. BUT said they wouldnt fix it for free. said some blahblahblah about if they did they would only use OEM line which would be about $300 and another $800 in labor and still saying it came in with the leak.
they would only use OEM line yet put a piece of rubber hose and hose clamps on to patch it.
im thinkin of taking the rubber hose off to see how the cuts are on the line. wondering how good they cleaned it up,too. hydraulic systems dont like metal shavings in them.

i have an atty friend and another that are going to be going to the shop ob monday to discuss this f2f. dont know if i want to be there with them as i am not the best and communicating in these circumstances.
atty friend says that beibngs how it was an unauthorized repair- a hack repair at that- they have 3 choices:
1- fix it. which im not interested in them fixing it after this BS.
2- another shop fixes it and they pay for it. i can live with that.
3- see them in court.

anyone pull one of the trans?? any work done near the PS lines?

forgot to add- i replaced the PS pump and return line in the spring. the pressure line had a little rust on it. nothing that would tell me,"i need to replace this one, too.

If you pull the trans out the bottom by removing the cradle, then you need to unbolt the streering rack from the engine cradle and suspend it.
