ok heres the story. i have a stock 98 gtp with a 122,000 miles on it. when i drive my car normal it drives normal most of the time but it does act up too. when it starts to act up it hesitates to shift and when it does shift it shifts abnormally hard. if im going at a slow roll and stomp the gas when it shifts down its almost like its wheel hopping but it isnt the trans is shaking really hard. this even happens at high rolls but not all the time. i took it to a place and the guy says it sounds like its the torque converter. i just want to get some more opinions before i start buying parts.

can you guys tell me what trans part number i have in my car?
also can you supply some web sites where i can buy some OEM replacement parts for my car? i need motor and tranny mounts, converter. as of right now this is all i think i might need.

thanks for all the help

It sounds like you have a low pressure issue which could be caused by a number of things and since you have 122K on the clock there is plenty of wear and many things together working against you. Check the fluid level first to make sure it is to the full line. Check this with the engine running and trans in park range and is best to check after things are warmed up. The torque converter is not your problem, they dont cause a bad WOT kickdown shudder. They pretty much work or they dont. If it was a light throttle high mph shudder you felt then possibly lockup clutch inside the converter but not from what you have described and it is a lot of work just to replace the converter only to find out it does the same thing. Pressure control solenoids have a pretty high failure rate on the earlier models and cause pressure issues and low pressure at higher engine loads but there is likely more to your problem than just that due to the mileage.

thanks for the input. im gunna do some more research on what controls the fluid pressure in the trans. if you have any info sites or info yourself for me it is much appreciated. i have checked the fluid it was the first thing i did and i was perfect.

thanks again for the help
