trans not shifting into OD

i have 2002 impala 3.8 had for a few years and i notice over time that the trans does not shift into OD if shift the other gears
just fine but not sure OD does not i notice the rpms flutter here and their

Probably stripped the splines right off the 4th gear hub, pretty common issue on 97-02 transmissions with higher mileage.

yeah i has 170000 miles on it and so is their a way to fix this without another transmission

Just replace the stripped hub with the updated hardened unit.
