Trans cooler check ball conversion. From external to internal?

BrandonHall10

Solving problems
1.) Is it possible to convert external check ball (inside cooler fitting) to internal check ball (in channel plate)?
2.) If so, what parts would it take? Can I get JUST those parts?

My reason for wanting to do so is for an easier cooler install. It would be nice to plumb directly into the transmission case with my AN fittings and omit the factory quick connect fittings. Much like the LS guys get to do.

3.) Am I missing any disadvantages of an internal check? Why did GM go to an external check on the '00 to '03 4t65e's?

Let's assume the transmission is already apart for rebuild.

Yes you can add the checkball inside. My last trans actually had both because I used a newer casing with a VB that had the internal.

I am unsure on the benefit of the move. Unless they found it easier to replace in the fitting vs internal.

All you'd need is the checkball and gaskets.

Thanks Bill.

Are all the 4t65e channel plates the same? Let's say I find an '05 Impala (or some other w-body with an internally checked 4t65e) at the pick a part... Could I just take the entire CP from that?

Maybe I'll shoot Dave an email to see if I can purchase the needed parts from TEP.

Just out of curiosity, what are the ramifications of not running a check ball period?

My 04 Impala LS has the check valve in the fitting, not sure about the 04 SS though.
