Trans/convertor Need Insite

Heres some info to start off,

1998 GTP with 2005 motor/trans swap, using genIII blower set-up,used my stock harness with stock ecu, re-pin the trans connector to have 3-4 gear, motor and trans has 25k.

First 20min of driving, trans shifts like champ no jerking no nothing.
Very smooth, but after about 30-45min of driving the trans starts to hard shift from 2-3-4. Feels like the convertor locks up way to soon, sometimes between 2-3 and maybe 1-2. trans fluid is pinkish red not burnt or brown color, And sometimes it will not downshift while i slow down. Feels like when i take of from slowing down im still in 4th gear. Let it sit for a couple of hours and its back to normal. im thinking its the
TCC/PCS solnoids. Now i would figure that would be the case for the convertor sticking to being locked, but i dont understand to why it would lock up the convertor why to soon.

Any insite would be great, but at the same time i dont need people telling me i need a rebuild right off the bat with out explaning your self to why!

Not in the mood for a $1000+ rebuild when it could have been $200 or less doing it my self.

I do have a SES light on but unsure what it is, im waiting for my scanner to come in to check it...Last time i did using my friends autozone scanner it showed a p0181 (fuel temp sensor, range/perofrmance) that im not understanding as well, because i have called the dealer and looked for it my self and still dont see it or been told that there is no such sensor!

The problems you are running into are because you are using a non-matching transmission with your stock pcm. You will either need to convert to a 2003 pcm OR swap the valve body, pump, and channel plate from your 98 trans into the 05 transmission. All 2003+ transmissions are electrically different inside. There is a pressure switch manifold on all 97-02 4T65E transmissions that tell the pcm which range the transmission hydraulically is in as well as tcc hydraulically being on or off. The 2003+ transmissions only have the tcc switch, so when you use this with a 97-02 pcm it doesnt know what hydraulic range the transmission is in and will not function properly. Also the 2003+ transmissions use a different style pressure control solenoid which has a different operating range than the 97-02 models so shift pressure across the board will be incorrect.

heres another issue then, i had already plugged in a 2003 ecu and i still had the same problem! however i did not change the pins on the connector till i put the 98 ecu back in...so one would assume that if i leave the pins in the same way as how i changed them, the 2003 ecu should would work like a charm? but some how i dont have a boost gauge any more in the cluster and my avg miles per gallon was way off and set a p0181 code..so i would be assuming that i lost a few things while having the 2003 ecu in?!

also what els would have to be changed? because i re-used everything off my old motor and trans and mounted on the new motor and trans.

i hooked the 2003 ecu back up..seems to be ok after 45 min of driving, but now i still have that darn p0181 code...but im kinda drawing a blank to what could be causing it to throw the code...

Never mind still the same problem, just took longer to come back. Now there has to be another way because im getting the same thing from using a 1998 ecu...

Never thought for a momment that would cause the problem..just adding that because someone had asked me what codes came up, that was the only one I saw.
I'm trying to get the pin outs for 1998,2003,2005 to compair them..

figured out the problem, it was the TCC solenoid the whole time..
Had used a friends scanner and it showed a p0181 code nothing els, ordered my own scanner and it showed me a code for the TCC solenoid stuck on.

Now from my own gathering and studying diagrams heres the 411 on swapped newer trans into our older cars...

for some odd reason the pin outs on the trans harness connector is the same from 98-03 but if you had swapped in a newer trans only a 2003 would shift the car passed 2nd gear. In finding out that in the newer 4t65e-hd such as a 2005 has a 3 pins located in a different location on the connector, and that is your trans range wires.. In turn if you take your connector and re-locate pins

N-F
P-H
R-G
And adding a ground to pin K

Your original ECU will shift the trans, mine is the perfect example. 98 ecu controlling a 2005 trans shifts like butter.. And im not getting any codes for different axle ratio. Plus i still have my performance shift option. Thats another part i had noticed when swapping a 2003 ECU while the pins are unchanged. Was i didn't have my performance shift option, didn't have my stock boost gauge on the display, avg mpg was way off! (35mpg in city) very doubt full, and my real fuel millage sucked.

With my original ECU back in and changing the pins gave me back everything plus not wasting gas like i had a BBC under the hood..

So if anyone is planning on doing a swap to a newer trans assuming 2003 and above, you don't have to buy a 2003 ECU to make it work. just change the pin location (mentioned above) Long as there is nothing els i missed out on, An your all set...

And it pays to have a good scanner and not a cheaply one!
