Tranny trouble?

Hey all just joined wish under better circumstances though. I bought a 01 Gp Gt about 1 week ago. Till now I have driven v8’s mostly rear wheel drive (mustang camaro ect). So I ignored something’s and passed them off as differences between the two type of drive lines
Here is my problem.(if it even is a problem) When at freeway speed about 70mph..my RPM’s are about 3k..maybe a bit less or more seems high to me? Also I notice when driving at speed when I remove my foot from the accelerator the RPM’s drop all the way down to about 1k instantly. And I have to bring them back up to speed to engage the transmission
I started to think this is a problem when I noticed far less then expected gas mileage. I have heard about this p1811 code? But that seems to have something to do with hard shifts..my shifts seem to be very smooth…maybe to smooth lol.
So please any insight would be helpful
Thanks all J

I keep reading things online, and sometimes my sounds like the pcs, and in other situations it does not…IT some cases it sounds like 4th gear spine is stripped..somtimes it sounds like a combination of both.
One way or another it sounds like it will have to be looked at.

thanks, thats kind of what it sounds like. 4th gear spindle stripped? here is my next question, atm I dont have 1k+ to to my name in order to get this done. I am I gonnabe doing lots of damage to the tranny if i drive for a while without it shifting to 4th?

Most likely the 4th gear stripped.

Its hard to say. I have heard of people driving for months with out 4th gear before. It will just effect gas mileage on the freeway.

I have also heard people driving for months or even a year with no 4th gear. Probably depends on how much highway driving vs city driving you do.

But the way to look at it is the tranny is already in need of a complete rebuild. You won't do much more damage driving it till it dies.
