I would suggest doing the tranny fluid and filter now and every 30k miles afterwards. The trannys in these cars can be weak and cause a lot of people problems. I change my tranny fluid every 25k miles, I don't beat on my car very much, and I am still rockin a stock tranny. So with a little maintenance, they can hold out for some miles. But a lot of them fail somewhere along the way.

As for synthetic, I changed mine over and am now running Valvoline Dexron VI fluid, which is full synthetic and I have zero issues. My dad did the same thing on his Bonneville at 120k miles. My wife's car with 115k miles was changed to Valvoline Dexron VI fluid and no issues. In my experience, changing to synthetic fluid on a good running, clean transmission is not a problem and I wouldn't hesitate to do it.
