Traction Control Button

Good Day,

I have a 2004 Grand Prix GTP Comp G. The traction control system works fine, but when I go to turn it off with the TC button, it will not disengage the TC. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I am wondering what is the likely culprit here. Could it be the switch, or something else? What's the best way to troubleshoot this?

Thanks!

That switch is kind of goofy. And it's in a bad spot. The 04 I had, must have had a few drinks spilled in it, and it was stuck solid. It took some working with it before I could even move it, and even more time before it would work. If messing with it for a bit doesn't help, I would just Google a new switch or look for one on rockauto.

You can pop off the button face with a small flathead screwdriver. Mine acted funny when I first got my GP, even seemed a little sticky.

After prying off the button face I found it was full of gunk. Soaking it in some high % rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) for a minute, then cleaning it out with q-tips and compressed air solved the issue. The buttons/switches rarely go bad.
