TPMS on a 97...

After a few searches I'm hoping for more info. The light came on and the pressure in the tires was a little high when I checked it because its much warmer outside now, after lowering all 4 and checking pressures with a good quality digital guage, I set them at 35 psi. Since the pressure changes there have been 20-30 key cycles and the light will not go out. I'd like to get rid of these sensors, anyone know how? If the light needs to be turned off manually after it comes on then how? The local tire shop wants $ to hook up their tpms tool and they said more $ if they need to re-train them for their position (LF, RR, etc). I've been meaning to stop by Orielly's and hook up their scan tool but haven't had time. I know the sensors in our 08 Yukon are set up position specific after rotations and the sensor that flips out will give its location... this car just has a light, so what good are they? Just seems like anything regarding these sensors is a waste of cash. THX in advance for the info
 


There is a yellow button under the steering wheel/ dash area that you hold for like 5seconds and it turns the light off and I think there is a fuse that you can pull if you just want to get rid off it but not 100% on that
 
97 is the weird year, tire pressure works off the abs system. There is no acutally sensors for it. But I would try the reset with the button first. By your legs under the steering wheel.
 


There is not a fuse you can pull to disable this system. The driver information center receives a signal from the ABS computer to illuminate the low tire light. If you want to permanently disable the system you need to either remove the low tire bulb or the cut the wire that gives the bulb power when the tire pressure is low. It is the red wire at either pin A4 or J depending on if you have a trip computer or driver information display. Here is a wiring diagram:

I would just try and figure out the issue not half do it. you may not have abs or something currently. I would scan it first. I had 20's on my 97 and only had a low pressure light once from a low tire.
 


They only had TPMS on the 97 due to the light coming on so much. The EBCM calculates the rotating diameter to determine if a tire is low on this system. They did not have many vehicles with this system on them. Now all the TPMS use pressure sensors in the tires.

So in as the tires wear or summer winter tires are changed the sensor needs reset...I like this much better than a sensor per wheel!! TPMS sensors are for the old and young and otherwise unwilling, not those who maintain their rides as we do!
