Towing Capacity

I have an 07 Grand Prix GXP. Everything I see says that it's rated at 1000 lbs. I'm looking at towing a Popup camper. Tongue weight is 120 lbs and a total loaded GVWR of 2000 lbs. I know it's a uni-body, but only a 1000 lbs towing? Plenty of power/trans/brakes. Has anyone towed a SMALL popup or camper. What type of hitch are you guys using?

I'm not climbing mountains. I'm in Western MI and have a few hills, but nothing serious. My main campground is only 20 highway miles away. Farthest trip would be 300 miles max to camp with/by my parents. Thanks for any info:th_thumbsup-wink:
 


its the same trans as the gtp's.

because its 04+ is does have hardend parts and can tow a certain amount of wieght.

If you did end up towing with it, keep it in 3 and not D, so it dont go into fourth gear.
