Top Swap Pulley Options.

Thanks for actually saying something useful in here. I'm still considering porting the SC, I might do it this spring. Why don't you always run 91?

Youre welcome. And because I barely drive it in the winter, let alone race it. 89 is way cheaper so i run that. But I also tuned for it and I can always scan it. When summer comes around and I go cruising around and go the track then ill switch to 91. I would recommend porting the SC. Its easy and said to kill some KR. just make sure you gasket match it afterwards.

And my tranny is doing fine. Just dont do any one wheel wonders or run slicks. The only difference is the differential and gear ratio.

Yup, I don't think most people realize the HD tranny isn't that different.. I've talked to tons of people that have been more than fine with the normal Non-hd transmission. Only difference is the differential, one of the axles (pass side?) and gear ratio. Stay away from hard launches and you're good to go normally.

Plus I don't beat the living piss out of my car like some people do, and I don't go to the track either.. More of a daily driver, just want more power.

If youre not wanting advice then dont ask for it...

Bio was simply trying to tell you that to get anywhere with a top swap would require more mods and not simply the classic "what pulley could I run" question could really apply...

once you start modding (especially top swapping) its obviously going to impact the entire car... instead of getting mad about information being givin to you, listen, and it may make you change your mind about your initial goals/idea with how youre wanting to modify your vehicle...

to answer your original question... put on X size pulley, scan, adjust, then repeat as necessary changing X.... thats the only way to know...

All I was asking is what pulley is acceptable to run safely with those mods. I said nothing about future modding. I had a very simple question. Kind of similar to GTP guys running headers, intake etc with a 3.4" pulley - common practice that people do when they BEGIN to mod - I wanted to know if I could also drop a pulley size. Obviously things follow in the future (cam, IC, trans, etc.). But that wasn't my question.

I completely understand why a cam would be ideal to put in now if it was in the budget. I'd love to do a lot of things right now, but things have to be done in steps and I need to stick to my budget. Most people don't go from a stock car to a fully built race car over night. The only reason I am getting ticked off is because this is my build which I have planned out and I was just curious what pulley could/should be ran. I've already gathered plenty of information, so now I'm focusing on the minor details (like pulley size).

If you care to know my current short term goals -
1: This summer - Top swap and TOG headers. Get a solid tune. All of my parts have been accounted for and I'm already going to be over budget with the money I spent getting the heads redone and the extra money I put into TOGs vs SD headers.
2: Depending on how money looks at the end of the summer with my internship, maybe find a set of modified rockers and possibly pulley down or save the cash for the next summer. (I don't do anything mod-wise during the school year as I don't have enough cash coming in).
3: For all I know I could Cam it a year or two from now, but it won't be until I have extra cash set aside and money to build a transmission. I'd rather bite the bullet then and do gaskets twice then spend all of my money now and be dead broke. I like to have plenty of money set aside to pay for school bills etc. instead of being dead broke and having a faster car.

I likely will never get to number 3, especially if I do rockers. As of now I'm not really planning on even doing rockers either, just something I've put half a thought into.

Sorry if I came off as a dick, but It gets really annoying when you ask a specific question and people tell you things that are pretty much irrelevant to the question. I'm much more active on ClubGP and my local forum, so it's not like I haven't been exposed to that stuff before.

I believe you, top swaps arent cheap. I think they are just getting at the point that the cam is much cheaper to install while you have the engine tore apart already. I had my heads and valves redone for <$40, and it still cost me a grand and a half, with cheap headers. Personally my next step is E85, I've heard good things. All I need is a wideband (which i need anyway) and some injectors. Oh and a pulley ;) youll be happy with the top swap for sure, but not quite as happy as you could be lol.

I don't think I'll be as happy as I could be until I get into a car with 300+hp from factory with a 6 speed manual to be honest lol. I hate the 4 speed in these cars.

Right now I've spent $200 on a parts engine, $275 on getting the heads completely redone, and $400 on Ceramic coated togs with a SS DP from ZZP. Plus another ~$100 on miscellaneous stuff and cleaning supplies. I still need all of my gaskets and a few other small things. I should hit around $1200 all said and done, probably a little less.

go with speed daddy, they are cheaper and ive heard they are better than zzp's togs plus you get a down pipe instead of spending 100 more

I already bought like-new ceramic coated togs with the ZZP downpipe for $400. Now I won't have to worry about redoing the flex section or getting new band clamps or welding and I have vastly superior headers for not much more money :th_winking:

port your tb too it takes some work to do it right but it makes a pretty decent difference when you match it up with a ported bloer and lim

wtf do you people not understand about a budget? Seriously? If you have nothing to contribute about what pulley I'll be able to run then don't comment. With your logic I might as well build a tranny, Get a IC, Gen 5, heads and go balls to the wall.

When did a tranny, IC and heads become balls to the wall? LMFAO.

I'm about to put a 2.8 on my topswap, hope that helps.

If your not going to drive the piss out of your car Wtf is the point in moding it lol and even the hd trans fail on stock cars your going to put 250hp on a trans that fails with 200hp on it, it may last a year but its going to brake

Porting the blower won't do much,

Porting the TB is a waste of time.

You won't get past a 3.8 I'm willing to bet.

I never did.

Threw on an intercooler and I dropped to a 3.4, but thats the absolute limit, even with rockers.

you could probably go to a 3.2 with a s2+ intercooler on a stock cam top swap.... With decent fuel and a clean blower port.... I probably wouldnt suggest it if you are just looking for a simple setup... hell I have a 3.4 on a NIC setup here in town just because the owner doesnt race the crap out of it.

Uhh what about the hardened internals from the factory? Like the input and 4th clutch hub?

I forgot about this comment. That part is only in the 2003+ trannys. And its only for 4th (OD) so it has nothing to do with performance unless youre going WOT at 150mph or something crazy like that. Theres no hardened input shaft, shift kit, or anything different between the regular trannys the HD trannys than what was stated above.

Yep, that's why I'm not too worried. A few local guys have been more than fine with even more aggressive driving habits than myself. I get on it from time to time, but rarely is it from a dig.

id rather pay 250 bucks for headers than zzp's togs, most people end up buying those then selling them and going for headers. Personally i think the headers are a better choice and cheaper
