Top Swap Pulley Options.

I'm doing a top swap here relatively soon. I have a low mile L36 that I bought with 20k miles on it three years ago. It now has 60,000 miles on it and is in great shape.

For my top swap, I will have ceramic coated TOGs with ZZP's catless TOG downpipe, intake, colder plugs etc.

I know for sure I can run a 3.8" pulley with the higher compression and that setup. Would it be worth it to get a MPS with a 3.6" pulley? It will obviously be tuned, but if that is pushing it I'll save the $100 dollars and stay with the stock pulley.

What kind of gains (whp) would I likely see? How much boost would likely be produced?

Do you plan on going any farther into modding? For now Id stick with the stock pully. But if you plan on going farther a mps would be a good investment

All depends on the car. I wouldn't run a 3.6 pulley on a canned tune. If you find someone around there with a tuner it would be possible but you have to see where you are at on the 3.8.

Won't be camming it, although it would be nice. I might do rockers down the road, but only time will tell.

I forgot to mention that I will have a Tuner available. Would dropping a pulley the .2" net a useful amount of power?

All depends on where you are at with the 3.8 pulley. I am pretty sure you will be able to get a 3.6 on there and yes it will net a useful amount of power.

It's not always about pulley size though.

if you dont plan on camming it you shouldnt even top swap.

i guarantee you will cam it later if you dont do it now.

I guarentee i will sell my car in the next 2-3 years when im out of school and have a stable job. Even if i do cam it i dont have unlimited funds right now. Some people have budgets

Save for longer. If you plan to sell that soon then why are you modding?

2-3 years is soon? Sounds like 2-3 years to further enjoy my car. I understand it would be easier to cam when I'm top swapping, but it's not going to happen. It was never part of the plan or budget.

sounds like he is being smart with his money, and budgeting. but trying to get a littlle more enjoyment out of his car for a while. til he can afford something newer or better.

If your not caming it the might as well sell your top swap and don't do anything because if you top swap it your going to end up doing more I guarantee your transmission won't last 2 to 3 years on a top swap anyways so your going to have to spend more anyway

I think if you port your blower and smooth out the head ports (might not even need this, but its nearly free) you will be able to do it. Im getting relatively good WOT timing on 89 octane. When summer comes around im going back to 91 and seeing what i can do.

wtf do you people not understand about a budget? Seriously? If you have nothing to contribute about what pulley I'll be able to run then don't comment. With your logic I might as well build a tranny, Get a IC, Gen 5, heads and go balls to the wall.

Thanks for actually saying something useful in here. I'm still considering porting the SC, I might do it this spring. Why don't you always run 91?

I'm just telling you before you learn the hard way your going to kill that tranny even on a plain old stock top swap and if your on a budget don't do it because you will blow your transmission up and if your not doing a cam or anything you should stay with a 3.8 pulley that way your engine doesn't end up like your transmission does
