Top Swap knock

Hey guys, finally got the monte back up and running... well sorta... Me and incomudro from clubgp finished it up, and got the engine running. We found out the coupler in the SC has a lot of play and needs to be replaced, so there is no supercharger belt on right now. BUT Im getting some knock. Incomudro told me to check the spark plug wires and another friend told me to check the spark plugs for gaping. Anyone have any other ideas? With no boost, it shouldnt have any knock, right?

you can knock without boost, but if you are then youre more than likely going to knock a lot when you do put that belt on.

did you do any sort of other mods when you did the top swap?

I get some knock as well on my N.A setup. If you did a top swap, you should have all breathing mods, if not you better get some or you could possibly chip a piston or worse with an extent amount of KR.

I'm just hoping I can run the a 3.8 pulley with no knock with all the mods I have planned when I do my top swap.

for now I put in the 180* T-stat, and Im getting a Ubend delete, im looking at the wizaired KAI, but I dont have enough cash to do a full exhaust right now. since the supercharger pulley isnt on, would that cause I rough idle?

I have mine tuned to no knock up top, and less than 1.5* at around 3k rpm, my only mods are the 2.5 DP, and the intake, and a 185* therm.... so if you tune it well and do some sort of exhaust work(I would do at lease a 3" cat less dp), you can run KR free :)

I'm going to have a ported blower, LIM, and TB, 1.9 rockers, and 42.5# injectors that I'm adding. I already have the Plog, ceramic crossover, and a 2.5" DP. I plan on getting ZZP's headers eventually before I go IC'd.

that should be enough to run a stock pulley.

I'm hoping it's enough to iron out the tune then go down to a 3.4. :th_mischievious:

I'd run that until I got some intercooling going on. A 3.4 on a L36 block with those mods would be a mean son of a *****.

just wanna get mine running again, stalled on me and wouldnt turn over, but I never had the sc hooked up, so Im resetting the PCM, putting in some new plugs, and wires (had double platinums, got copper, and I think a few of the wires were bad) the engine was running really really rich.

I have a new coupler for the supercharger comin in, any tips for that swap? and Im thinkin about headers...
Pontiac Performance Racing Products for International Sales from SSAutochrome Inc.

so Im gonna mod my stock box, and open it up (until I can get some more money for an intake), get those headers, and a high flow cat, 180* T-stat, mobile 1 oil, copper spark plugs, new plug wires, throttle body spacer, and I think thats all for now... you think I can get little to no knock?

doubtful, to say the least, but good luck.

QwikGT is able to do a 3.4 on the SS M90 kit with about the same mods. The difference is that he has the SSIC, but he's also running crazy high timing for a SC'd engine. With moderate timing, I should be able to pull it off.
