Took apart the whole engine.. (Advice Wanted)

a .30 over bore aint going to make you that much more power, and that set up is going to be a lot more work and money to get running, vs picking up a used engine and just swapping your parts to it, used engine is by far cheaper and faster to get going, no machine shop work, just slap all your parts together and go.

used engine costs 400 to 600, over 600 for one with lower miles if you shop around for it. like i said you need new heads too, the used engine will come complete.

what ever you do decide to do, put a bigger pulley on the sc, and work your way down to where it runs without knock. or the same thing will happen.

I checked out all the valves and head, no cracks or any signs of anything hitting. everything looks good on them. i mentioned the engine because someone has a shortblock already .030 bor with new pistons, rods, ect for 400. i was also offered naturally aspirated series 2 motor complete for 250.

im assuming it in this way..

.030 overbore=more compression? require larger pulley- does the overbore make up for the lost HP pullying up?

stock bore=8:5:1 use the 3.0 or 3.1 that i should of used. the pcm has been HP powertuned to run my mods 2.8 w/Racing Torco and 3.0 93 octane

so the question is, if i want to go faster, do i get the .030 or stock bore shortblock? in the future id like to get either the Stage 2 or 3 intercooler.

I may be wrong, but having a larger piston wouldn't up the compression unless the piston's compression was different. Things that would increase compression are, decking the block, heads, headgasket thickness, crank stroke, and piston compression rating. Using a larger piston should just increase the amount of air and fuel pulled through the heads. Might actually need a smaller pulley to maintain current boost. A larger engine like a V8 needs a larger supercharger to feed it basically.

you could get a whole engine for 400, thats why the short block rebuild will cost you another 4 or 500 to finish or more. you need a full gasket kit, aint cheap, machine shop work, not cheap, rings, not cheap, bearings. the used engine you pop your cam it it a new lim gasket set and get er done. you follow my train of thought? :D

the bore only affects the cubic inches, you may gain like 3 or 4 cui

Ok, so I decided to pick up a used engine for 400 bucks. Complete with supercharger and has 120k on her. Now, what else do I need to swap all my mods in. Is stock headgasket, and headbolts ok to leave alone with my mods? What do I need to remove my springs in my old head? Am I going to be replacing head gaskets down the road? I've decided I should run the 3.1 pulley in the summer, maybe 3.0 when it gets cold out, until I get the intercooler. I was going to go with the zzp 3.1 pulley, new cam bearings and the zzp kit 3 cam install.. Anything else while she is apart?

These cars never blow head gaskets. But since you have to take off the lim anyway to put the cam in, you are only 16 bolts from taking off the heads.

Well i was asking mainly because:

A. .52 Head Gasket is like 170 bucks
B. ARP Head Stud Bolts are like 80 bucks

id rather not have to replace them if i don't have to.

A. You only need felpro
B. Pretty sure they are cheaper other places. And you only need studs if you are ever going to take the heads off again. If not, just get the TTY ones.
