Took apart the whole engine.. (Advice Wanted)

so i took apart the whole engine today because there was a loud knock noise coming from the inside of the engine. I had KR up around 14, and i am thinking i overboosted the engine. I had the P0121 code also. I was running a 2.8 Pulley, maybe i should of been going to the 3.0 or 3.1. i always use 93 octane. Here are my mods, and attached is a copy of my power tuners bin file. Turns out 6 Chipped Pistons. Pictures Below

junk yard bottom end and pulley up then get tuned, those pistons are tore up

yea, i was thinking of just doing a rebuild, the cylinder walls look like there in great shape and there were no scratches or damage (surprised). all the connecting rods were good, and bearings were all good. the valves in the head were all good as well. and when i found that my spark plugs were closing gap, i knew i had to take it apart.

Do you think it would be worth buying these pistons?

ZZ Performance

id rather not have to get a whole new lower block if i don't have to.

So Im not trying to hate if you have a scan guage how did you not see the KR? Esp with a 2.8 pulley? Like the other guy said get a junkyard bottom end pully up and get a real tune can tunes are good for a little bit but your mod list looks way beyond a can tune. And the results of the pistons prove it! Good luck hope its back on the road soon!

How many times are we going to cover this? Do not rebuild the bottom end. Buy a junkyard short-block. Get a low-mile L26 short-block and spend less money than on the pistons. These things are tanks from the factory and I've heard nothing good about rebuilds. They don't hold up. Go high compression and pulley up to a safe size.

Im sort of new to the whole GTP Performance Thing. I bought this car with all these mods installed, and i just learned how i could scan for KR with the gauge, and that is when i noticed it.

I have uploaded the Bin file for my PCM. would be great if anyone could check this out to see if it was tuned properly. if there is a way of doing that.

Ok So does having the L26 Shortblock with a L67 Head give higher compression then the stock GTP motor? if i do that, what pulley size should i start off with?

your much father than any W body Ive owned and yeah an L26 has weaker rods some claim and yes the compression ratio would be more than the L67 all NA engines have higher compression ratios.

Still believe the OMG dont rebuild a W body V6 is BS that comes along with believe what you want on the intenet forums. They can be rebuilt if people know what the hell their doing. How ever I would be on the side of that argument its prolly cheaper to buy a used short block!

l26 has 10.1 pistons

the l67 has 8.1

so if you go high compression you would need 3.4 or 3.6 pulley probably at the smallest to start out with. and scan for kr, then drop little by little so you dont blow it up again. inter cooler would be a good idea, sorry if i missed that you do in the list, not sure if you have one or not.

Ya way too small pulley for the mods you had. I'd get a new block and have someone tune it vs a canned tune. Generic PCM tunes can only do so much.

L26 has 9.4:1. Just like the L36.

L67 and L32 have 8.5:1 Compression.

So...you were running a 2.8" pulley...ported blower...with an S1X...headers...bigger injectors and a different fuel pump...on a canned tune? I'm surprised it didn't pop the first time you went WOT.

Anywho.

Budget?

Because that'll tell us what we can tell you.

Sounds like the previous owner was the re-re that put the 2.8 on there with those mods. Or at least i'm hoping in defense of the OP.

And if your SC is opened up for an ic(hbar removed) then open up that LIM as well to match it at least even if you don't have a IC yet it will just line up better and not create turbulence. BTW if your dead set on building a motor I have a set of those pistons brand new .030 over with a bored block with new cam bearings and freeze plugs(not sure what other if any machine work was done) and freshened rods for sale asking $400

short block is cheap.

rebuild is not.

Short block is used.

rebuild is not.

How much do you want to invest in this car?
