too much heat soak

Not sure what car you have, but I have first hand experience with the GXP heat soak. The engine compartment is basically sealed, and its all motor so the entire compartment is hot to the touch. I'm not referring to overheating hot, just stupid design hot. Racers have been using this same trick for decades to reduce under hood temps by shimming the hood, it works. The only real way to avoid it is hood vents, something this series did not come with. Either of these should be able to be fitted, and would work. It would all be personal preference.

I have an 05 so I am in the same boat as you. I can also tell you from personal experience seeing friends when adding non functional cowl induction hoods that they overheated on the freeway which hadn't happened before with he stock hood. Seen it on Mustangs and Supercoupes, 82-92 Camaros and A/G bodies with electric fans. I will give it a try this summer though and see if it makes any difference on the freeway since the fans run with the AC until about 40 mph or so.

That won't make a difference. I can keep my temp down just fine until I am at a steady state cruise and the temp will hold about 197 with the fan running, but the temp would climb to 217 and kick the fan on then cool it back down then it would just cycle installing a cooler thermostat doesn't help if the temp is above the thermostat setpoint. I ran a 180 last year made 0 difference at speed. In traffic yes on the freeway none.

I agree with that the cooler thermo wont help much. I have no idea why you think a non functional cowl induction hood or any other would have really anything to do with running hot on the highway. I have owned all the cars you have spoke of and then some and really the only time they ran hot was when something is wrong and there are lots of variables for determining whats up with that as well as alot of fixes too. If your car is running hot it could be a multitude of things, try some Wetter water to see if it helps any and go from there.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I just installed the tstat, so I'll see what small changes there are. Probably going to look into the hood vents, or make some kind of air diverter to get more cooler air to my intake. Can't really make a fwi, it rains too much this season. Maybe later in the year.
