TOGs

Im installing TOGs tonight in my 01 gtp. They are the ceramic coated ones from 3800performace. I have read about all kinds of issues installing headers on these cars especially the SD ones. I just want to know if there are going to be any surprises installing these like the power steering lines, sway bar, and O2 sensor. I have te 3in down pipe for TOGs made by zzp.

dont tighten the flanges down like the hulk. the more you tighten them the more they will warp and the more they will leak. coat your donut gaskets in a thin layer of high temp RTV to help them seal (let them dry before you put them on).

Easiest way I've found to get the rear in is to pull the motor forward and then drop the rear of the cradle about 2-3 inches. Slide that rear header in from below.

If it's in the way, take it off. EGR, gone, MAP sensor bracket, c ya', intake, bye bye, upper motor mounts and clamshells, peace!

Get the car up even on 4 jackstands to give yourself room. Spray the stock bolts with PB blaster the night before.

Get a ratchet strap to hold the engine forward. A chain or something will work too bolted to where the clamshell for the upper motor mount was to get the rear header to drop in easier.

Get 2 new bolts for the crossover that are the same length as the included hardware and get 2 nuts and 3 washers for each. Use the bolt, 2 washers and one nut to make a stud out of the bolt. One on each end of the crossover on the side you think you'll have the hardest time getting to. I weld them into place personally but not everyone has access to ta welder. If you do, weld the bolt heads for the DP into the rear header too.

Don't tighten anything down until all pieces are in place and the hardware is is threaded somewhat. Tighten the headers then the crossover then the DP.

Take your time, use gloves, and get a blanket to set ontop of the engine because you will be kneeling up there.

Flip the swaybar upside down. Put an aftermarket one in while you're at it if you planned on doing that ever.

Be careful bending the Trans dipstick....it will want to pinch then break.

I just used a piece of pipe that fit around it, and stuck a heat gun very close to where I needed it bent, let it heat up, then pulled on the pipe, and got a very nice bend.

First one I tried to just bend over, ended up pinching, and we had to cut, and rework to get it to work.

So you get what you pay for, i did not have to move bend or flip anthing, it was just as easy as when i did the PEMs if not easier since i didnt break a cross over bolt. the car remained on the ground until it was time for the down pipe, all that had to happen was pull the engine forward to get to the rear, no big deal

Good to hear.

I have some of the older original coated TOGs. all I had to do was "massage" the tranny dip stick tube over a little so it wouldn't touch the cross over. Mine installed from the top easily, and never had to flip my sway bar. Trick is to bring the front and back together at the same time when you bolt them up with the cross over. Easy as pie.

ORANGE high temp. RTV on the exhaust doughnuts, and anti seize on all the bolts, you'll thank yourself later.

The new TOGs how ever...that cross over they make now...its interesting to get everything to line up.

It seemed pretty easy we hhad the back header tighten up and the cross over lose and lined it up with the front and tighten it all down. They are awesome.
