to disable drl the correct way?

sorry if this has been asked before..iam getting a set of hid's so i will lose my high beams and i heard i have to disable my drl...can someone please tell me the correct way of doing this? is just to unplug the fuse if so where is it located? thanks this forum is great...
 


Certain years (up to 2000 IIRC) you can just remove the fuse. There should be a fuse diagram on the inside of your fuse box (inside the glovebox).

On later years, you have to unplug the DRL diode. Pry up the panel on the driver's side of the dash (can only be seen with the door open). Underneath, there's a black box with a huge metal fins/heat sink. This is the DRL diode. Use a small screwdriver to push the tab, and disconnect the plug that does into it.

Edit: Try pulling the fuse first. If you have a later model year, you'll hear incessant clicking under your dash. If this is the case, reinstall the fuse and unplug the diode.

(It's been a while since I've studied electrical theory, so feel free to correct me if I'm completely off base.)

Power = current * voltage (P = IV). Therefore, lower voltage = more current (assuming the ballasts are regulated for constant power output).

Heat produce = current squared * resistance (Q = I^2 * R). Therefore, as current goes up, heat produced goes up, which kills electronics.
