Tire shop gave my keys away

Thats one crazy excuse they dropped? Try back Monday??? Seriously? lol

Best of luck.

Edit...*if for some reason they screw you on the re-key or you don't get your originals back, let me know. I will have one of my guys yank a complete set from one of the cars in the yard next door and fire them off to you.*

Thank you for that offer, hopefully it doesn't come to that.

My honest opinion is this said "customer" is a buddy of theirs. They have your address, and now the keys to your car. More than likely if they do take it; it will be stripped. I would do like others suggest, and contact the local authorities so they know what is going on. Also wouldn't hurt to contact a free consultation lawyer to know your rights, and what you can get. If they don't have this said customer by Monday I would have the cops investigate. I would also check out their BBB record, and maybe even throw that out there if they refuse re-key.

Either way that sucks man.

Maybe a buddy of one of the workers, unlikely buddy of the shop. An established business isn't going to risk it all for a few grand tops in parts.

id be stayin up all night near my windows with my 12 gauge loaded!
thats ridiculous. call the authorities, soon.

All these excuses about the keys are just too good to be true, I would research this place to see if they have pulled this stunt with other customers before.

Well the car's been kept in the garage now. Stopping at a police reporting station tomorrow to see what they say.
They have a B rating with the BBB, so I dunno there

Yep. There was a stereo shop in Dallas that got busted for something similar. They would cut a copy of the key, make sure one the rear door locks did not lock when the alarm was armed, and disconnected the sensor for that door so the alarm would not go off when opened. A couple of weeks after the install, the car would be "stolen". Eventually the police saw the pattern and took a bait car in and nailed them. It turned out to just be 2 of the installers working together, but still hurt that shops business for a long time. I still don't think they have fully rebounded 15 years later.

Damn Leadfoot, that sucks. This story ended well. They called me today, the guy lives here but works in woodstock. He drove back early to return them. I met the guy as he was having more work done on his car. Told me he realized this morning when he took the keys from his cup holder and tried to start his car. He's an older guy and I believe him when he was apologizing. Sometimes we have to think the worst tho.

On a side note, all the cops told me this morning is to see if they have video surveillance and if they do, to call them (the police) to have them collect it.

lol, never said old guy. Older guy :p

"He's an older guy and I believe him when he was apologizing."

yes you did lol when i think older guy i think 60 plus. they seem to loose their minds at that age group lol

im not that old yet. give it a few more years and it will be official tho lol

It's amazing that as we age (I am 48) the "older" an "old guy" gets. When I was 18 an old guy was like 30. Now it is like 60.
