Tint Task Force -- My Morning Laughter

So I've always heard that the Va State Troopers in Fairfax County are.....we'll say 'sticklers' for little things. And I got to deal with them this morning, AFTER dealing with 2 and a half hours of traffic due to a multi-car pileup that blocked all lanes (going in a straight line is tough...) I'm zig-zagging around side streets and eventually make my way back to the fwy where a VSP motorcycle guy is waiting, points at me, and points to the side of the road. Now my car is a walking write-up, and I'm actually glad I didn't get hit worse, but I'm thinking maybe my lack of a front plate? The red paint in the retrofit headlights? No....he walks up "Your tint looks a little dark there, buddy." He wasn't a donkey about it, he was actually pretty nice, very matter-of-fact. 50/35 is the limit, I measured 20 (for what those readers are worth, i bought the car with the tint so idk the exact %) Yea, I know, officer safety law, its the law, i'm out of code, whatever. I don't think they're THAT worried about the safety since if I just pay the ticket I don't have to provide proof of removed tint, seems more revenue generating than anything. So now I get to decide if I want to re-do the defrosters that are undoubtedly welded to my rear tint, go legal and get the ticket tossed out, or just lower the front window tint, pay the fine and call it w/e. I actually had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing when the cop said this. I have a smile on my face as I'm typing this, seems a little absurd. I've had this tint for 4 years, no problems. Oh VSP of FFX County... thank you for my morning laugh!

hey man at least your laughing about it and not ranting about how a dumb cop gave you a ticket for doing something illegal! I agree though I think it's just for revenue because lets me honest with or without tint if someone wants to shoot a cop walking up to a window it'll be done either way. I have illegal tint on my car too and have been pulled over 4-5 times for just the tint and once for speeding with the tint but didn't get one ticket. I think if your respectful to any cop it goes a long way with saving money.

My uncle george had the front windows on his f150 tinted to match the factory tint on the back windows. He had it for 6 years with no problems. Then a cop pulls him over(yes because of his tint) and tells him to remove it or he will continue getting tickets because the cop was gonna be on the look out for him.

What a dick. My uncle still has it. Hasn't had another ticket since.

I had a local cop try and write me up for a ticket when I was younger, it was dark, stupid dark, 5% all the way around and a 8" banner on the front windshield. You couldn't see me inside if I was pressed to the window.

I told him I wasn't aware Oklahoma HAD tinting laws, thought that was the reason all the officers drove around with 5% on theirs, figured if they could do it, so could I. He tore up the ticket and told me to get out of his car. Never got stopped for it since.

Except Texas, Texas hates dark tint on the fronts. Told me to keep the windows down if I didn't want to remove it, nice enough guy. I just have to see and they have to be able to see me, so easy peasy.

ive had like 4 tint tickets i think...yeah all they want is your $$$$$$$$ the VLT meter would read a consistant 13% on my GT's front windows HA
