just bought a grand prix GT 2003 do they have a timing belt or a chain? how long do the last? normally belts need to be changed at about 80,000 miles
 


if you have a 3800 engine, you have a chain, and it should last the life of the car. unless you upgrade your cam or something like that, then you should change it.
 
Timing chain and there not like Hondas and such you don't have to change then unless they break. My 90k chain was perfectly fine..I only changed it when I did a cam install.
 
Late to the party.. I've seen a lot of these motors have issues with bearings etc and old age when they have 200K-300K+ on them with original timing chains. Chains aren't a problem. Motor on and smile.
