• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Timing chain rubbing?

Bedwards

New member
What would cause a stock timing chain to rub at certain RPM's (1600-2000)? It's a very annoying metallic scraping noise. It's a brand new chain and tensioner.

there's so much room in there, I can't fathom how .... wait, it's you Brandon. Ok, I've got an idea we are going to learn something new on this one.

Should be able to. Dampener might have chunked and caused an issue, but that's not super common.

Sitting back, waiting to see how the heck this is happening.

(Thoughts to self: Ok, Being Brandon, I must thing outside of the box....like miles outside. The answer is probably here. How, how how? Boy I wish he posted some pics of that chain install. )

Including the abuse that new chain and tensioner went through will help diagnosis. I take it you still haven't checked it yet.

You do know what he did to it right? That's lile a 30 page post...worth the read for the conclusion.
Yep, I read the whole thing and the other post.

Just don't think everyone read through them so the background would help. I think he should check it out before the annoying metallic scraping noise becomes a bigger issue.
