timing chain replacement question

So my car is at 215k and never changed the timing chain...would it be a good idea or is it ok to just keep it on? Car is still running amazing!
 


it would be good for you to change it. the tensioner or probably toast by now which means the chain isnt too far behind.
 
Well, I would definitely say it is a good idea to have it changed. However, since the engine is still running well I would leave it for now. The nice thing about metal timing chains is they usually don’t self destruct and take your engine out with them. The next time the car needs some shop time you might want to tack on the chain replacement then.
 
I ran stock can until around 140k, and changed it when I pulled the engine/tranny out. I agree with the posters above.

the chain does explode when the tensioner cracks, breaks, and then leaves the sprung metal tab to grind into the chain.
 
and hell while your in there might as well throw a cam in there! I would also suggest replacing it with that many miles!
 


^^Not really...the valvetrain might not be up to it unless he just did a VS...just put a new timing chain and dampner in there...also, I'd put a '04+ Oil Volume Kit in there...its just like ZZP's advertised oil psi booster but in all actuality is just an '04+ spring/gasket. That way your motor will have a bit more oil pressure to help its longevity.
 
so when replacing would you also do the sprockets or just the chain/dampener. I figure do that and the water pump too since ill have it off. I just wanna keep the thing running as long as possible, especially since i just replaced the trannny.
 
A few things i'm confused about.

I thought you always change sprockets with a chain, in fact I thought they came as a set?

Also why would you change a roller cam. Don't the rollers in the lifters prevent like 98% of the wear you experience with flat tappets?

replace whatever comes with the set, ive never done it since i went with a double roller chain and never looked back.
 
when i pulled my engine apart with 185k the timing set looked decent slight wear on the tensioner and my cam didnt have any real wear on it niether did the crank all the machine shop did was polish them

BTW, isn't the stock chain double roller? Just looked it up. guess not :)
