my 98 GTP was the first new car I ever bought. After 16 years of (mostly) faithful service, it's time to move on (while it still runs and I can sell it).

I'm looking at a new impala 2ltz. Comments?
 


I have a 2005 GTO that I drive once a month (if that). I can't explain to my wife (nor do I want) another car.

Hopefully someone will get couple more good years from it before it goes to auto heaven.

I'm not a fan of the new Impala's. Didn't feel like a full size car when I sat in one at Detroit a couple months ago.

Get a 04+ GTP for $6,000 and get another 5-7 years of faithful service. Pocket the difference. :)
 


Definitely with hensleya1 on this. Drove an 09 Impala LTZ that I borrowed for about a month before I bought my 04 GT. My opinion, Chevy should hire Pontiac's old design team. Or ressurect the one you have, it'd still be less than a new car...

I drove a 99 GT for four years and replaced it with a 99 GTP. Been driving a GTP not quite a year now. In between, I had a rental '13 LTZ for a couple weeks, and a Malibu for a week and a half. It may be as fast and get better mileage but the driver's controls in any new Chevy are likely to drive you nuts at least for awhile. I had to just pull over and get out the owner's manual for everything I wanted to do. The paddle shift is a neat trick with no real benefit that I can see. I didn't like it. I plan to keep driving 97-02 GP coupes forever though. I suggest renting one for a week first!

With the release of our latest road tests, the 2014 Chevrolet Impala becomes the highest-scoring sedan in Consumer Reports’ ratings. Among all cars, its 95-point score falls short of just the Tesla Model S ultra-luxury hatchback (99) and BMW 1 Series coupe (97). No other domestic car has topped the sedans ratings since we began tracking scores in that fashion over 20 years ago.

Ah- theres a newer new one now. I'd wager that the driver's controls are no better and still think renting one first would be a good idea, even if its not the exact model you are looking at.
 
I think the pre 2014 versions sucked. They were SO bland and got really crappy reviews. The looked like bars of soap with absolutely no personality.

I actually intended to look at a malibu. When I configured the malibu I wanted, I was stunned at its price. I also did a little research on the quality and found less than stellar reviews.

During that time I happened upon the Impala. I think it's gorgeous.

And, looks aside, it has an excellent combination of features (especially for the price).

This will be my first non pontiac new car purchase (I bought a 2011 sienna limited for my wife). It feels kind of weird...
 
Yes the Malibu (a '13 also) was fairly loaded and dare I say alarmingly fast for a four banger. Not big enough though. The features they have now are amazing, if you're into that. I too, have a deep Pontiac heritage and like you, my family leans toward Chevy and Toyota now. They will have to pry my 69 GP from my cold dead hands.

Buick, Olds, and Pontiac here...

Since Buick is kind of rudderless with their rebadged Opel's and Oldsmobile went the way of the cassette tape in 2004 (the same year that Facebook joined the Internet)... yeah. My next car will be an 04+ GP when my 99 rusts out or I break the trans, but after that I'll be at a loss what to get next.

What rips me up is that the Opel is offered a turbo V6 in Europe but the rebadged Regal offers no such option in the States.

You can brazilian wax my legs and use me as a surfboard before you'll ever catch me driving a four cylinder Buick. I don't care if it makes a million horsepower, it's still four cylinders.
 
Well, I saw my GTP trailered away today in the hands of itss new owner - kind of a weird feeling.

The good thing is that I was able to sell it to a guy who will drive it, and seems like he will enjoy it.

I replaced it with a new impala. It's simply stunning - with tons of features and just simply in a different league (of course it is - it's almost 20 years newer).
