Time for exhaust.

Hey everyone,

I'm going to replace my entire exhaust, and I wanted to put together a list of what I need to do it. I'll be buying some SD headers here shortly, so I'm mainly concerned about the rest of the exhaust. I'll be going 3 inch, and from what I've read, Cherry Bombs work great as resonators...how long though? I don't want any drone, if possible. What about mufflers? I don't want to spend a bunch of money on mufflers, because this car will never sound that good. Also, what about tips? G8 tips look great and all, but $130 for exhaust tips....$130. Anyone have some ideas on cheaper alternatives?

If it matters at all, I'll probably end up with a basic 3.4 Gen V setup (HAI, headers, tune, I\C if I end up with KR)when I'm all said and done with the car. If 3 inch is too big than I can go 2.5, I was just under the assumption that I'd probably want 3 inch for my goals.

Awesome, I'll see what I can squeeze in there. What about the Y pipe section? The only place I can seem to find it in 3 inch is ZZP.

i dont see why you couldnt go three inch from what i heard tho zzp mufflers are very droney. i have heard the borla xs i think they sound good.

Any ideas on where to get the 3 inch y pipe? ZZP is REALLY expensive...I wonder if it's something an exhaust shop could make?

Look on rock auto. Or just google the 3 inch Y if it's universal summit would have it. Around here my muffler shops charge ridiclous amounts so I never go to them

3" is always preferable, especially if you're running headers

Mufflers and stainless/aluminized depends on your budget.

If you're getting/got SD Headers, then you got that covered. I would get the ZZP cat-back, no mufflers or res, and then buy your own. Get the aluminized if you're on a budget, just be sure to paint the outside of the piping with Tremclad BBQ paint to protect it. I would also ask them for the tail section of their 3" downpipe, say you're converting your 2.5" exit to 3" and they're usually good about selling you this piece, that'll help you shove a converter inbetween and give a complete header/downpipe setup.

My new favorite cat converter (just discovered these this summer and yes I do run one): http://www.magnaflow.com/02catalytic_converters/02product/displayuniversal.asp?universal=51659

My favorite resonator (forget a glasspack): http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/shopexd.asp?zone=main&id=11460

You can run the above resonator/muffler by itself, it's loud but little to no drone however, but whatever muffler you chose to run now will sound better behind it.

A tight fit but still my favorite 3800 mufflers, Flowmaster Delta 50s: http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/?page_id=11190
And I'd love to hear the 60 series on a 3800 but its been 14 years now and no such luck (everyone wants the loud ass Flows) http://www.flowmastermufflers.com/?page_id=11195

The above post, tips look nice ^^^

do what I am going to do, gather up all the pieces you want and go to a local exhaust shop, drop it all off, and tell them 3 inches and let them weld you up a catback...yeah

^^ If you do let a local shop do the system, I'd take them a Magnaflow or other quality prefabricated Y pipe to use, as that's always the worst part of a "custom" system if you let them make their own, in my experience.

Thanks for all the responses guys, I'm in the planning stages right now, and I'm hoping to not have to spend a sh*t ton of money on this, but that the same time I don't want to skimp on the quality. There is an exhaust guy here in town that made my Y-pipe for me, so I might take it to him and get an estimate on him assembling everything.
