Time for a tune?

Allright I am getting ssac headers with in a week or so but was woundering if i can drop down to a 3.4'' puelly safley or would I need a tune in order to do this? and my plan was to get a tune when i get different rocker arms (which was my next step). and the mods I have now is a cooler set of spark plugs, 180 degree thermostat, cold air intake, and a 3.5'' puelly
 


are you running the 3.5 pulley right now with no tune????

and i dont see what the diffrence between a 3.5 and a 3.4 is, its maybe 1 more pound of boost. you could always just up the timing some to make up the diffrence.
 


Stupid question I know but Why dont you wait to install the headers till you do the rockers since it al has to be apart anyway then get a tune drop to a 3.4 and call it a day
 
Get in touch with a tuner now, let him know your plans. I would get a base tune on after the header install and get you kr free. Then have him do a better tune when you get the rockers on.

If they want to charge you an arm and a leg to do that, see if you can at least get a scan or buy a scan guage until you do the tune.
 
Pffft. I'd rather keep the 3.5"...install the headers/rockers...and crank hte timing as much as you can. It isn't alawys about smaller pulleys...its about flow and timing.

no, its about more boost. duh. thats how my car always ran, low timing and high boost. :D
 
And hows lower boost higher timing working out?

Low boost, high timing...

or

High boost, low timing.

Either or, its your option...you can make more power with the bigger pulley and more timing because there is less heat and less parasitic loss from the blower. On the flip side, more boost makes up for the power of the higher timing on the bigger pulley setup...make sense?

well actually, with a 3.5, header car, intake, basic bolt on, and tuning (someone that knows their stuff) could smoke the average 3.4 setup. My DD (when it was stock of course) trapped higher than most modded gtp's do with bolt on's, which was 98.7mph, or almost 99mph... just saying... The power isn't in the pulley size, it's in the tune. It's unfortunate that people think the smaller pulley they run will make them faster, it's not anything like that. The smaller pulley will make you think the car is faster because of the added tq, but when it comes to a 50mph and higher race, it's over.
