Time for a transmission?

its me

New member
So, I bought this car a couple weeks ago and have had no real problems until just a the other night...
I was driving down the highway and 55 mph and when I started to go up a hill my rpm's racked way up (almost as if it was in neutral) until I let up on the gas a little bit and then it seemed like it would come back into line and work like its supposed to? It done this a couple more times so I put the car in 3rd gear and limped her home with no more fits? I have drove the car around town a couple times since this happened and everything seems fine (but I haven't been back out on the highway to really check 4th gear). Does anybody have any thoughts on what might have been happening and how to fix the problem?

I checked the fluid last night and it is full and looks and smells pretty fresh. But, when I checked it, it was just a little over full? Could that be a contributing factor to the cause of my delima? It wasn't extremly over filled, just about a quarter of an inch of the full line on the dipstick??

Any and all help or suggestions will be graetly appriciated and concidered! Thank you in advance for any info due to the fact that I really don't know anyhting about transmissions other then how to change the filters and check the fluids!

Just FYI stating your model, model year and mileage help narrow down many questions. Moving on, sounds to me like you lost ( or are losing) your 4th gear clutch hub a very common problem in the 97-02 transmissions. The good news is it will still work for a few months, but with out 4th gear you’ll get crappy mpg. The bad news is you need the tranny rebuilt. Good luck.

Sorry for the lac of info about my car...

99 Gtp
about 175xxx miles

After I posted this yestersay, I done a LOT of researching and was regretfully starting to lean towards that very same conclusion about my fouth gear clutch hub?

My brother (purplehaze) and I ended up replaceing the transission. It took us two solid days counting the time it took for us to go ahead and give her a nice suspension upgrade swapping out the springs and we had her back on the road again :-) Thanks again for all your help Hermano!!
